This is sad news. I have to admit ,I still prefer having a magazine in my hot little hand. I don't enjoy e magazines or whatever you want to call them. I enjoy reading the latest issue of a mag that featured the same car in a previous guise 20 or 30 years ago and going to my previous issues (on the bookshelf in chronological order) and pulling that old issue to read. I've been buying hot rod magazines since I was 9 and would like to do so for many more to come

Sad but inevitable, it was light on content and heavy on advertising, I'd flick through at the news stand and put it back, plus it was damn pricey here in aus.
TRJ for me, and, traditional rod and kulture.

Have thoroughly enjoyed all your great tech articles through the years, Kev. Also sorry we don't get the chance to see how you could drive that ship. Best of luck to you, Aaron, and Rob!

  7. I wouldn't be shocked if this is just the start of many long time titles going out of print. Car Craft has been on the choping block for years from what I've been told but it sticks around because of tradition. My guess is they may be the next to go. The internet has killed print media which is very sad. I still prefer to hold a magazine in my hand then to stare at a screen.

As a self admitted mag collecter/hoarder/junkie this indeed a sad day. I'm hoping all that were involved at
Rod & Custom land on their feet somewhere doing what I'm sure was more than just a job, it was their passion.
Thanks for the many hours of enjoyment over the years.

i think i only had an issue or two remaining on my subscription. they were pushing really hard on getting me to renew. i'd get a renewal form in the mail once a week. i actually sent a few back stating i was going to wait to see the direction the magazine was headed after the decision to remove rf as editor. i guess my decision paid off.
at one time, my subscription was paid for 4 or 5 years in advance.

The first magazine I ever subscribed to, in 1956. Still a subscriber! Still had 17 issues on my subscription. I STILL HAVE SOME OF THE LITTLE PAGES. The Rodders Journal arrives every three months, can not equal every month. Can we hope for a revival?

  11. Sad news, but I can honestly say that I'm not surprised. It has really lost its luster in the last few years. The last copy that I looked at felt like it was printed on tissue paper. I think the final blow was letting Rob Fortier go. The good news is that there are plenty of great magazines out there like Traditional Rod and Kulture, Rodders Journal, Kustoms Illustrated and The Lot. Car magazines put out by car guys, not bean counters.

Hmm, and i figured they were one of the few mags that was doing good?!?!?

But then again all the rod and customs i've bought in the last 5 years have been pre-1970, and honestly, every magazine out there including them has shitty tech articals for what us traditional guys are into

.....for two and a half $20 bills you can subscribe for a year. ($49 bucks_

And Hence,…. There is the core of the problem..no PASSION… All the publications we love in the past were started with this seed.New small Indy publications have the same love. The Bottom dollar is where the giant corps rest.
My heart goes out to those affected with these publications being dismissed…. like yesterdays trash.

  17. Amen on both accounts.

Passion for profit, doesn't make decent magazines.
    Or, it would seem, profits.

R&C was the last magazine I subscribed to but it figures it came to a end when money was tight and could not justify spending any more,I would rather have a magazine then look on line like I like paper shop manuals instead of them on CDs.

Going to miss R&C, I've been reading it since befor I got my drivers license.
It's been a long run though , it taught me a lot, starting in '53 or '54 when it
was a $.25 publication. My son managed to hold on to most of my little pages
collection, and will end up with the rest in a few years . Now if I could recover
the time I spent reading R&C , I could build another car or two.
    Onward and upward all ways.

I loved R&C but truly disliked all of the high end cars.

  26. Changing their name, won't make any difference.
Source Interlink, by any other name, still sucks.

that's BS... i cant sit in the garage, with my feet propped up on the front tire of my 34, and read a computer... its just not the same, i cant throw my computer on the front seat of my coupe to go show all my buddies the new ideas i read about,, its not the same. ..and waste of trees? paper is biodegradable and a renewable resource. Tree farms, forestry, and other paper bi products provide millions of jobs for working people (whom may use that job to support hotrodding).... i think maybe a few guys need to take a few steps back and read a magazine or sort through those stacks and stacks of rod and custom magazines you have been saving since you were a kid.. that's a look back in time you just cant get that form reading a scanned PDF, or some article on the computer.

sad to see it go. always enjoyed all their articles and information..

This truly is a sad day. R&C was the only print subscription I had left and something I really looked forward to coming in the mail every month. Maybe I can get my 6-year-old to play mail carrier and start "delivering" an old issue from my car magazine hoarding archive monthly to ease the withdrawal.....
I wish those that worked on the magazine the best and will keep my fingers crossed for another resurrection of the title.

I returned from Vietnam in 1972 and subcribed to R&C. I have every copy since then. It was the only magazine subscription for me and now my last. Fortunately, I have a great reference library. From this point forward, it seems that I will have to endure damn unwanted advertising pop-ups on my computer and phone for breast implants and viagra.
