Chris I would think about moving the wheel well up on the body to get the fenders up? Just an idea.

    HalRods,
I spent the weekend working on the rear fenders, First I cut back the fender were it was bolted to the wheel well from the factory, then I made a 16ga steel ring to match the contour of the rear fenders and tack welded that on the fender , will be finish welding it later and bolted them to the body 3" up.
I think it worked great, what do you think?
Not to many full fender chopped channeled hot rods out their, Now I know why!!!
    Lots of welding and grinding!

    Thank's Mark,
Got to keep busy in this cold climate.
Now that the fenders are mounted its time for making new 16 ga steel running boards, got Pass. side measured up already.
A friend of mine has just gotten a large air compressor and setting up to do sandblasting, May be doing my body and parts this spring and get it in Epoxy primer soon.
It now has both doors on.
Enclosed pics of the drivers door , It's Swings and shuts, need fine tuning,
but not to bad for having a wrong swing door and to narrow.

looks good Choff...you are making good progress

FYI romars makes steel reproduction running boards for about 400/set....they are made exactly like the originals too....I got a set and I am pleased with them

    here is a link

    http://romardb.com/catmain.html

click on "hardware and accessories" then scroll down towards the bottom of the page you will see running boards

Really enjoying following this build, I'm building a 28 Desoto pickup from a four door sedan and enjoying the different from a ford factor. Cheers from NZ,

Thanks, Hope to get busy this summer on prime and body work.
    Sometimes it seams endless!!
Dodge is something a little diff. than fords and not seen alot.
A 28 Desoto Pickup seems to be in that group of Diff., Have fun!!

lookin' good..don't worry about purists you passed that point a long time ago. You're gonna have a good time putting in the fender ridge in that patch. As for the running boards those are the simplest ones you'll do. On my 29 I just made a frame out of 3/4 square tube and covered it with sheet metal, once I put the board rubber on you can't tell from factory and they have survived 25 years and 100,000 miles.Good luck

Great thread so far! I like the slight channel and chop. Looks like a winner. I love full fendered cars when done right. Keep up the work!
