Found an ad in Craigslist for a "59ab flathead" for $450. Advertised as being in good shape, with fairly new clutch, and transmission still attached. Didn't say anything to the seller, and not sure it mattered much, but as it turns out it's an 8ba? I don't know enough about flatheads to know if this is better or worse. Seems like a removable bellhousing is going to be easier to deal with if I change the transmission, but online it looks like prices for parts are more expensive for the 8ba. We'll see how it goes.

Frame, based on model A for Model T, by Vaphead / Riley Automotive. (Vaphead pic) The frame arrived today, in great shape. Was super light and I carried it myself from the driveway to the garage no problem. Ordered the frame with small block chevy mounts, and now I found a flathead. :) I'll figure something out. Maybe drive at first with a sbc, while I prep the flathead.

After bullseye pick, hammer and dolly work and filing. Pictures don't really come out well cause of the lighting.

Identified areas to be raised with marker. Acetone will take off any marks that aren't filed off. Using a bullseye pick from Eastwood. Don't make the mistake of using the pointy tip that these ship with if you get one "as shipped"; even little squeezes could raise the metal too much, and in a too concentrated of area. I bought one accessory blunt tip, and I'll probably make my own that are larger in diameter eventually.

Lots of bodywork / metal finishing to do on the car, but I'm taking my time and having fun doing it. (realized after posting that it looks like hell from this angle. No, I didn't slap all of that bondo on it. I'm actually metalfinishing it and removing the bondo as I go. working on the passenger rear quarter for now.)

Looks like a nice project and priced right, nothing wrong with a 4 door [IMG]
I restored this '67 Taco 22 to use as a pit bike at Bonneville. I can no longer ride it after back surgery, so it's off to a new home. Fun while it lasted!
The Taco is now in the collection of former Speedway stat Gene Woods. It got a good home.
