      I was wondering if when you removed the distributer you checked the front of the cam for a grind?
      I have the identical flathead, 59 AB, also .040" over. My cam is stamped "Weber F2".
      Pretty lopey grind, as I recall. (had a 3/8 X 3/8 I built in '59, very strong 2,00-5,500 RPM.)
      Like you, I love a surprise. My .040 flathead was gifted to me by an old friend!
      It's going in my '27 T Touring.
