Technical lancer hubcaps

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by tb33anda3rd, Dec 25, 2013.

  1. is there a difference between '55 and 56 lancer hubcaps? i am looking for a set and i noticed [from the crappy, listed photo ads] some have crossed flags[?] some with blue centers and some with red. if the difference is just the color i could change that, but if there is differences in the shape i would like to know. i want a good set and i want them all to match.
also has anyone redone the chrome on the center crosses? thanks.

They are the same dimensionally, I believe the color difference is just in the year.

I recall that the real Dodge Lancers have a gold lancer's helmet in relief in the center. The ones with crossed flags are probably aftermarket.

  4. thanks BOBK, and 50FRAUD. i hope i am looking for the right years. i just have not found a picture of what i am talking about.

Tony, I think that you are thinking of the 14" covers with the long flipper bars, I believe that those were on the 57 and 58 cars. Those are the only ones that I have ever seen that had the gold on them.

  6. i need 15" caps, and from the photos they look like flags. definitely not a helmet or a bullet i do not care for that look.

I beg your pardon (really)! I was indeed thinking of the '57-up 14" caps with the long bars. Funny thing is that I like the early ones and don't much care for the 14s; I can't imagine why I offered an expert opinion with my head up my ass.

I have the 15" repos on my 53 and they have the crossed flags. I bought these new in 1975. The ones they make today may be different. The originals had the gold helmets.

  11. those are the ones i like!
they are '55, '56 dodge lancers right?
    does any one repop them?

I have a dozen or so but the problem is that only the four that I run on the chevy are dent free. If you know someone that can take the dents out of stainless some of the ones I have are not too bad.
The centers are pot metal and are easy to have rechromed if they are not too pitted.

  16. thanks Bob!

  17. do the centers unbolt? or are they rivetted?

  18. Ahhhh...'57 Dodge Lancer Hubcaps...the most stolen hubcap ever created . The Dodge dealerships would not even put them on the cars until you bought the car.
Mine are the repops that you see everywhere, 15" on front and 14" on rear.

That website is a GREAT resource for identifying hubcaps and their relative value. I've never bought anything from them, but I'm sure grateful for their website.

15 " repops of '58 Lancers with the gold helmit,,,one of the 4 is still kind of gold color. :) Stickers on the backs proudly proclaim they were MADE IN TAIWAN.

  28. thanks stepping out for the closeup photos, it appears that '55 56 lancer hubcaps are what i am looking for [That is what it looks like was on my car back in the day]

Don't forget to watch ebay for these too. They pop up quite regularly.
    Good Luck!!

  30. thanks, i had a buddy of mine bid on one for me when i first started looking, i was not sure of the value, or for that matter, what i actually was looking for, so i was not as "aggressive".
of course now that i am looking, probably won't find any and if i do it will be a small fortune.
