Shaw wrote about this in his book. Car caught fire and he ran it into the water to put it out.

  2. Having participated in the Race of Gentlemen on the beach in Wildwood NJ last month, I cringed at the images of the car submerged in the surf. I had actually considered the possibility of that happening to me. But it was actually a great move to save car and driver from the flames.

Sad thing is the first generation of knowledgeable people is passing. Used to love to see Peter Helck drive it onto the show field here in town. Paint may have been still wet. Bob

This is great news, I was under the impression that there were just bits of the original motor. Bob :)

Bob, please understand, i'm not 'havin' a go at ya', as we say down this side of the world, and I don't mean to sound like a communist, but I have on occasion mentioned there shall not be any photos posted of LSR vehicles unless there is valid reason to do so. On the subject of Frank Lockhart, his racing career on the speedways has been discussed very little in this thread, probably less so than the photo of the Blackhawk at Indy has been posted. So, to keep your post relevant i'll share with the group a letter that was obtained by fellow HAMBer Zach Suhr. Zach has kindly given me permission to post it here.

This letter was written by Frank Lockart's widow to Al Powell. Mr. Powell is an author of Strange But True Auto Racing Stories and Astonishing-and true-Stories of the Speedway.

    It reads..

"Yes, I am Frank Lockhart's widow-I was with him at all the races & also in Daytona Beach April 25-1928-I saw it all, it was terrible i'll never forget it"

Been very quiet lately, I don't mean to ignore anyone, in rough terms my life can be summed up as follows:

"Defining the Parameters for the Assessment of Risk in the Management and Transportation of Waste Water from Hydraulic Fracturing Operations in the Bakken Shale using the Analytical Hierarchy Process"

hope everyone is well, keep all the great stories and information flowing.

    great capture in time.

Hans Stuck and the ADMR hill climb car, all my favorite things in this painting colors, motions, feelings, and a sense of time and place. It was done by one my favorite artists Walter Gotschke, whose expressions say so much to me. If i could see an an image like this, happy i would be.

suffering and dreaming, strange bedfellows, but but inexorably co-dependant.

Nice story. I did scan some of the links on your site, but couldn't find out where the car is now. Smithsonian? Ford Museum? Or? Gary

I've often wondered what became of Stuck's hill climbing Austro-Daimler(s)?

Did they get dismantled in the A-D factory in the early 1930's after Stuck moved on to Auto Union, did they get destroyed in WW2 or were they melted down for the war effort...?

It would be nice to think that at least one survived?

  14. Hey Gary! The older boys tell me that John Conforti, the proprietor of said ranch has been thrown in the "hooschow". They say the Mustang is closed; but, there's still Suzies in Elko!

Better yet, there's the Price Museum, I think in south Salt Lake that houses, amongst others, Ab Jenkin's Mormon Meteor

  16. If you guys (including women) have not seen it. You've got to see "The Boys of Bonneville". It's a documentary, produced by John Price (of the Price Museum) about Ab Jenkins, his son Marv and the Mormon Meteor. It also covers Ab's record breaking on "The Salt", using other marques. I saw it on Netflix. It's also on DVD.

Anyone visiting Vegas that's watching this site should also be aware of the Caruso Museum near the airport. Check out the website...

    http://www.carusomidgetracing.com/

    Forget the Casinos.

Click on "Racing Memorabilia" to view the museum cars.

Anyone have any info and preferably more pictures of this rail frame car? It was owned and raced by Two Black guys that were Brothers named Ollison.

This IS the Packard Indy car. Were looking for Engine shots of the car in THIS era.. It was still PACKARD powered here..

    Thanks!

Yes! Correct, the Ollison Brothers re-bodied the Packard Indy car and raced it on dirt. Everyone is searching Hi and Low for pics of it as the PACKARD car.. No one (until us now) is searching for this car. But, It's still Packard powered here, and pictures of the drive line, and engine in this configuration will help!

    Thanks,

    J Shaw

Thanks! Those first two are the LSR car, and the 3rd it the Two seater. Not the car I'm looking for pics of, BUT GREAT SHOTS none the less that we will add to our archives.

    Thank you!

What were the years of ownership for the Ollison brothers, and did the car stop racing with them? Bob
