Painted the back of the chassis, cleaned up some stuff i didnt like. Offset the axle by 3/4" back,we will see how it looks. And fabricated my bumper bracket,Im no Bass but it came out ok. I still need to tweak it a bit. Now working on new Cab subframe-to-frame mounts...they will be fancier than the ones i made last year.. Posted using a chisel and hammer on Central America river stone.
Kinda lame to be the only one reading my thread and posting on it,oh,well. I was just daydreaming about my truck last night when I got one ofthe coolest Private messages ive gotten on this place. Mr Pilelish shared this cool story with me and Im posting with his permission. " This an incredible story. My father, he has been gone for 15 years, was a freight salesman for DE in Oakland. The original DE was in Los Angeles, there was barn and yard in Ridgecrest. I painted the barn sign in Oakland at Fruitvale and 880 to the detail with the backward S's, cactus and jackrabitt. in 1963 when I was in High SchoolThe original owner of DE, Ange Reader( Sp) his kid drew the logo with the s backwards, he was like 7 or 8 in the 50's so the ol man stuck with that idea. Your build brought a tear to my eye." I thought it was a great story. Thank you mr Pilelish. Ive been working on my body mounts.heres some useless pictures.
Dang Seth, your fab skills are improving...........lookin goooooooooood!!!!!!!!! Cool story as well. Wish I had time to work on mine. I'm always interested in your build......

So its been more then a week losing sleep and just looking at other peoples brackets and mounts so I can start making my own.I need to shitcan the ones above and make new ones for the rear below the cab.I already started cutting some metal but I wasnt "feeling" it.So today,I give it another shot and whatdayaknow?Everything sort of "clicks".A couple of grinds here and there then some metal cleaning and then i start tacking stuff together.I'm pleased on how the bracket looks that i run a little welding bead on the corner.Awesome! So I run another bead and then I finish one side."This looks ok but next side I will do a continuous bead"This is the result of the first part
I start on the other side trying to make one long good looking bead.My son is playing around me so I tell the wifey to keep him from looking ant the pretty light.I finish then I clean it and Im so proud of myself that I hurry to take pics.
I have been offered a 1977 Ford 250 custom short bed with a 390 auto for 400. The truck has the twin beam axle on the front. the guy crashed into a 2.5" wall and the passenger side axle broke off its "mount"?? and ended up under the cab. Im thinking I could use everything from the truck on the coe ie.: rear axle, gas tank, engine, radiator etc. But Im afraid of the gas mileage on the FE. what do you guys think.??? Stick with the sbc or go all ford?
I personally would use anything other than a 350 Chevy. It's about as generic as a Bic pen. The 390 ford would be much cooler to me. Yes, I vote for the 390.
