I'm about to start color sanding and buffing my car but there is a lot of smaller parts around the windows and roofline that I cans get a full sized buffer in. Does anybody have any good recommendations for a mini buffer/polisher? Any info or advise would be much appreciated. Thanks!! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Find a good quality small right angle drill ,sander, air drive and some 4 inch buffing pads and arbor.Easy to handle and does a great job.
matco sells an electric one that we use in all our body shops for small stuff and it works well. but its not cheap. there is an air one too from c/p, as long as you have a good compressor its no problem. http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/MUC122MPKIT/12V-CORDLESS-INFINIUM-POLISHING-KIT/ http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/SE730K/SILVER-EAGLE-MINI-POLISHING-KIT/
X2 on the Griots, I use mine alot and it's never missed a beat. I don't know about their other products, but that little buffer works good.
Those Griots 3" buffer hook and loop pads look to be the same as the Northern Tool pads used on this http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200384516_200384516?isSearch=102180 and this http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200051224_200051224 If so the replacements are $10.00 each plus shipping. I blew two of them up this week alone. They dont last long. I"m hoping to find these 3" hook pads at Carlise or Hershey cheaper. They also come in a 2" version. Oldmics
My vote is for the Griots 3" buffer, I also use it for rims. I get my pads from here so far best price I have found. http://www.chemicalguys.com/3_3_5_Pads_s/317.htm
Yes, it will take out 2000 scratches. FWIW the griots pads for that size seem to work as good as any.
I have had one of these 2" mini orbital sanders for over a decade and use the hell out of it - on sale for $25.99. It is one of my favorite specialty tools.... www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=mini+orbital+sander
I see that HF also now has a 3" buffer.... www.harborfreight.com/3-inch-pneumatic-polisher-kit-99934.html
I've got the Chicago air one that looks just like the HF one previous. Works great! Drills will overheat with too much pressure, and the orbitals don't have enough power to cut well. OK with polish, but not so great compounding.
