That item you are looking for is the yoke. You can get a yoke for that 1954 Fordomatic trans by putting up a wanted ad in the wanted classifieds section of this forum.

As for what to do with it, I suggest the next thing is to put up more pictures. From that first picture I can tell I like this car!

Clean matching wheels and tires, maybe just the black factory wheels with white walls and dual exhaust would do it for me for starters and yeah dropping it some would help define the look more and I will also add that "black" 4 doors are sometimes easier to make look cool as well.

Those cars are known for the front crossmember rusting out so you might check that out for safety reasons.

Check with a local trans specialist shop,..I believe you're needing the slip yoke that goes into the tailshaft ?

"What to do" with it? Drive and enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats - has a ton of potential. after you get it running, do the obvious repairs to brakes, wiring, etc. put in seat belts. what you do to it is only limited by skills and dollars. post more pics.

  11. I'm working on one just like it that my parents bought new, needs work but a solid car. My father worked at the Atlanta assembly plant from 1952-1982. If the third character in your serial number is an A, it's an Atlanta-built car and my father Pershing Wadsworth leaded the seams on it. I'm one of those rare people who likes 4 doors, so I'd rather have what you have than a 2 door.

I've thought about the two door conversion but IM Not going to. this car is clean it's been in Wyoming so no rust ill post pics of the trunk and floors it's in the best condition I have seen in a 50s car even the windshield is good it has a power front seat and the 272 runs it has a 3 on the tree and I still need the slip yolk but I'm sure ill find one. I am going to try to keep it original shaving handles and hood emblems and add the white walls but I have a 30 model a coupe that only fits me and my wife so this car will be a cool cruiser for my two boys . It's a San Jose car I found out and I even got a title with it which blows my mind most, my wife noticed that the clock in the dash still works I'm stoked ill post pics tomorrow and ill keep updating

I did a 2 door conversion on a 56 Chevy once and it's pretty straight forward as long as you can find the 2 door doors but I absolutely won't do that with this car it's far to clean and its lasted this long it deserves peace haha

As 4 drs. go, the '55 Ford was a lot better looking, just because it didn't have a big old post behind the rear doors, and the little 1/4 window. They look more like a 2 dr. at a glance than the same year Chevy.
I wouldn't do much to it cosmetically myself. A good cleaning, get it running well, and enjoy it as is.

Put some ford aerostar springs in the front and 3 inch blocks in the back. As stated before, clean wheels and tires. If you are looking for other ideas or inspiration, check out the 52-59 ford group. Lots of ford guys with tons of knowledge. Enjoy!

Put gas & oil in it and clean it up and roll out. Not worth cutting up unless you're really bored and good with a welder. Otherwise that's a nice daily driver you got there and lots of folks would be proud to have that in their stable. Nice work and keep her on the road.

I have a '55 parts car with a stick in it, does it matter if it was a 6 cylinder? Could sell you the whole driveshaft if you need it, or just the yolk I guess, although I hate to separate them. Let me know.

Aerostar coils and blocks and clean wheels/tires does sound like a good plan to start. I too have done several 2 door conversions including a '56 Chevy and these do make a nice 2 door sedan but I wouldn't fault a few nice custom touches and leaving the rest alone either.

Hi, Great looking car, I always liked 55 & 56 fords, 2 or 4 doors they all look good. The 272 and 292 are some good motors. I would shave the hood and trunk, low it front and back, remove front and rear bumper guards, and add duals with glasspacks, and then ride and enjoy the car. Ray...

I like your ideas. Fix the drive shaft, go over the brakes tires steering etc and drive it. Work on cleaning and detailing the interior, engine compartment etc.

When you find the time and parts do the Thunderbird grille, Merc tail lights, skirts, lowered, cool paint job.

Don't worry about the 4 doors. These days even a 4 door 55 Ford can be cool.

The Merc station wagon tail lights bolt in, the regular passenger car ones are way different and require a lot of work to fit them. I do like those, although I think the T-bird bumper looks awkward on these cars.
