Q:Who wrote to Henry Ford, "I have drove fords exclusively when I could get away with one. It has got every other car skinned, and even if my business hasn't been strictly legal it don't hurt anything to tell you what a fine car you got in the V-8"?

Right after WW2 Henry Ford was offered the VW company for nothing. He sent an expert to appraise the factory and business. His report in a nutshell: "What you are being offered here isn't worth a damn".

Years later,in the seventies, Ford killed plans for a small front wheel drive car because "small cars mean small profits", which would have got an argument from his grandfather.

I recall an old saying used when I was a kid "if you can't afford a Dodge then dodge a Ford."

I remember my old uncle saying to us when the engine would not fire
    "put a penny in it".

Not sure where that came from!!!

Joke = penny arcade = put a penny in it and it will start.

In my day it would have been put a quarter in the slot (Speed Racer video game)

Now I don't know what they cost, do they still have video game arcades?

Wasn't that something to do with the distributor and the points not making contact, you placed a penny under the rotor button and that closed the gap so your car would fire....................Or do I need to lay off the pain medication......

I always laugh when guys say that 4-4-2 was the cubic inch displacment. Wow! I'm sure glad I never tangled with a Rambler 660, 770, 880, or 990, or a Pontiac T-1000 or even a Galaxie 500 in a street race. And I thought a 454 or 460 was big.

There is a story that in the 1890s Wilbur Wright suggested to his brother Orville that they ought to build a horseless carriage. Orville said "That's crazy talk. You might as well try to build a flying machine". So they did.

I always liked to get a chance to use this phrase:

"I went to a race one day that was all Fords and nobody won"

(insert any manufacturer's name, I just used Ford because that's how I heard it the first time)

A good time to use it is when you walk into a conversation where some guys are gloating about their shit like there is none better on earth. lol

Also...though originally standing for 4 barrel, 4-speed and dual exhaust when it was first conceived in 1964, the "442" definition was re-defined for the '65 and later model years to indicate 400 cubic inches, 4 barrel and dual exhaust...since starting in '65 a three speed manual column-shifted transmission was the base offering with the 4-speed and even an automatic being offered as options.

I told a friend after he lifted his hood revealing the 302 he had, "ha! You put the motor in backwards you turd! The distributor goes towards the firewall". Yes not a old quote but I thought it was funny.

What about Enzo who said something like "arrow dynamics is for people who don't know how to build motors"

My father used to say about one of his new cars back in the late 60's,
"it can pass every thing on the road, but just can't pass a gas station".

    "Nicker nacker purr"

That's what my grandpa always used to say when he witnessed a smooth running flathead. Story goes that he knew an old fella one time that had a bad speech impediment. When he'd say that, he actually meant to say "Listen at her purr". LMFAO!!!

Idiots: "Yes - we did what you said - we used a dime to set the points and it still wouldn't run"

Grandpa: "are you sure you had the dime laid in there flat?"

Idiots: "well, actually...we didn't have a dime so we had to use two nickles, but they were laid flat as we could get them"

I'll tell the rest of this story if anyone's interested. lol
