...welded steel 2-piece, chrome plated, Astro Supreme-style looking spoke's...no markings on the back or inside the rim...direct drill Chevy pattern...the old guy I bought them from couldn't remember the brand, but says he bought them new in the early '70's...thanks
WAG says genuine Astro Supreme - they made many sizes back then, there were even some on a funny car (see the "Peanuts" 65 Galaxie)
Really?...I have some of the steel rim/aluminum center wheels from ET, and, some all-aluminum versions from ET, but never saw an all-steel ET tho...these look just like Astro Supreme's...
Later wheels were steel centers. Cast by ABCO in hayward CA. If I remember correctly damn guys that was 50 years ago
I'm going to respectfully disagree; I am certainly no expert but I've never seen an ET wheel that didn't have very clear markings cast in the back (usually ET wheels or Wheel Centre) as to manufacturer and location. Also they began to uni-lug inserts (except for special racing applications like top fuel) on pretty much all their wheels starting in 1966 (yes 1966). However Wheel Centre did do lots of custom stuff, so who knows.
These aren't cast, they're a stamped steel center welded to a steel rim...the reinforcement ring welded on the backside of the center makes it look like a Uni-Lug wheel, but I'm sure that's so they could just have one ring to fit different bolt patterns..
Very nice find. Those are the real deal. Astro Enterprises were located in Gardena Calif. They also built the steel chrome slot wheel.
Sam, I got the whole set from the old guy...: 14x6 fronts, and 15x8 rears It looks like some elbow grease and a little fine steel wool is going to clean them up pretty good.
Be careful with that steel wool!! That is a great find - If its rust you are working on try the oxylic acid bath method plus a soft white scotchbrite pot scrubber.
Phillips, thanks, I'll look into that...I thought it was a good find, I got to the swap meet late Sunday, and they were still there, the guy was only asking $100! Couldn't believe no one grabbed 'em before me! I was able to snag them for less that that after a brief negotiating session!
