For chopped cars, I would have to say Buster Litton's '49 coupe, Royalshifter's '51 Victoria, or this convertible (I don't know who owned it).

For unchopped cars, I would have to go with Junior Conway's '50 coupe, Leroy Goulart's '51 coupe, or Tad Hirari's '50.

For sectioned cars, gotta go with the Ron Dunn '50, either version, or this unidentified car.

  13. For style,[and keeping good taste]Royalshifters wife's car wins hands down.....most older customs look cluttered up with too many modifications to look their best.
A local car that is cool is my friend Geri's shoebox done mostly by her husband Bob[spidercoupe here].....
It was selected top 25 at Salina.

That 50 Vert you posted belonged to Roger Cunningham of Portland Oregon. It was on the cover of November 1956 Rod&Custom. I have been searching for Verifyabol information on that car for many years. I think it needs to be parked in my Garage next to my 51 Vicky.

I'm sure there's a ton I didn't think of, but those are some that came to mind.

With shoeboxes its really easy to make them look like you just threw a bunch of stuff on them hoping to make them extravagant like a '59 Cadillac.

Its best to just accept them for the simple smooth styling they are and make a tasteful custom.

That's a very cool car; an ingenious design, a huge amount of work, and impeccable detailing. But I don't think its radicalness has aged as well as some other less extreme customs.

BTW I think it's completely HAMB friendly. Every bit of it could have been done in the '50s; just nobody thought to do it.
