I have a friend with one with a three on the tree and all the shift linkage is worn out, where can I find replacement parts? also is there a two piece driveshaft? if so would a bad bearing at the split cause a vibration? one more thing where should the timing be? 283 cid Thanks!
yup, a bad bearing could be the culprit. don't know about the linkage. There are some bushings that could be worn
There are bushings and a pivot on the frame is worn out, wondering if there is a place I could get all new stuff from??
Impala Bob's is a start. Timing? Disconnect & plug the vacuum line from carb to vacuum canister on dizzy, I start at 6-8 BTDC, their are variables as mentioned........................
Yes it is a 2-piece driveshaft. A drivetrain vibration on these cars is likely the Carrier Bearing. While replacing it, also do all 3 (!) u-joints. Classic Industries is one source.
Lutty's out of PA. They have tons of Impala parts. I used them for my 1963 Impala SS resto. Also there is Hubbards. Both are vendors at Spring and Fall Carlisle. A good national club is VCCA; Vintage Chevorlet Culb of Amreica. Good luck.my .02.
Chevy dealers used to stock a GM kit with everything needed to rebuild the column shift. It was a big job, the last one I did was on a 3-on-the-tree Chevy truck and the whole column had to come out. I'm sure one of the sources above has it for the '64. Bob
best replacements parts around, www.truckandcarshop.com there located in southern California and have on-line catalogs, mail order or walk in service. I use them all the time for my projects. They should be able to help with the linkage but the bearing can be purchased from pepboys, o'rielly's or most any other auto parts store. hope that helps.
