The use of the '48 Ford front crossmember in the center was excellent. But the A-D brackets (the mental picture arriving at the finished FORGING ala Miller Race Cars) Truly inspiring. The shell sectioning was perfect.
Afternoon ladies! Thanks for all the compliments, I needed some inspiration today. Thanks Sam, I know about the wishbones. I figured I was going to need every little bit for tie rod clearance, but after we pie cut them for the final install, it turned out to be a wash. I have done 3 sets of headlight mounts so far, and they were all shit. I would highly recommend placing headlight first, then shocks, haha. And thank you Mike, that is high praise coming from someone like you. As cool as those mounts are, I am concerned about the strength. Still on the fence about those. This radiator is so cool it deserves it's own thread. I can't recommend this guy enough. Carl at Spike Radiator in Englewood, CO. This was just over half what a walker costs, built EXACTLY to my specs with my tanks and a new core. 5 FREAKING ROWS, I probably don't even need a fan, haha. Anyway, give this guy some business if you're local. That's it for tonight. I have to put the front of the motor together and figure out the fan so I can mount radiator, shell and everything else. Hopefully this week.
Well that will work then because flatheads are forever. That is longer than "until death do us part."
Just kidding. I had the option of waiting to install the filler and paint it till later. I don't know where it will end up yet. Found out I need to adjust the feet. Also I forgot to tell him to flip the lower outlets so they point down for a better angle. oops. Working on a new pitman arm tonight. I will try to get some pics.
Sometimes good planning is knowing when not to over plan. When we were building my son's Stude we took the radiator back so many times the guy started hiding from us.
OK, got another small update. Running in to multiple issues with the front wishbones and pitman arm so I need to figure some stuff out. Built a pitman arm to correct for the 45* issue with the F1 box: Still needs a new ball and some bending to clear the wishbone, but that's another issue
Finally finished the shock mounts and the headlight stands. Maybe add a spreader bar later. Grill shell and radiator are also mounted.
Cool as can be! I just file out the 4 locating splines in those pitman arms and clock them as needed.
Thanks for that, we wondering if that would work. That will save a bunch of work and pitman arms in the future!
Dang, nice lookin roadster! Always loved the look the of the turtledeck and the rear half of the body. Good work on the taillights and the license plate light (nice find btw!), nice clean look
