It's been a while, but I have made some progress in between finishing school and customer projects. I managed to get some time in on my vent windows this evening and they are ready for the chrome shop. My friend Octavio painted my engine bay gloss black and I stripped my engine block down to bare metal and repainted it gloss red and had all of my polishing redone. Thanks to Sonny in Virginia for setting me up with the sidetrim! Planning to get her running this weekend so I can get back to livin' and enjoying this old car thing once again...it's been off the road for SEVEN years now...

The satin maroon is just a quicky to get me on the road...this car will be painted in the shiny stuff once I get the chrome finished and make sure everything fits and works right...

Question about the Kaiser over-rider... how is the crossmember under the tailpan modified to accept the exhaust? Just drilled? or is it beefed up somehow?

HAHAHA...good one, Rik! Maybe I should weld them back on since it looks so bad...wait, I probably couldn't figure out how to retain them. Darn.

 

I haven't run the pipes to the tips that will sit inside of each Kaiser tit yet, but it looks like I'll be able to snake the pipe under the frame and then up into the tits with a small S bend. There's more room back there than I thought there would be.

Got the rear bumper back from the chromer and get her running on Sunday with the help of some friends...Santa Maria here I come!

 

This is one rad custom you have! It all fits together without any hassle. Man, makes me wanna go out into the garage and start reworking my box..

Thanks guys! Means a lot to me...it's been a long road since the head-on collision in 2006. I could have rushed to get her on the road years ago and I'm sure I've missed out on a lot of fun cruising and shows, but I wanted to do it right before I drove her again. I'm glad I took my time because the car is finally to the point that I always wanted it to be. The last thing that will be done is the glossy paint job in the near future- I wanted to get her in a satin paint and drive around a bit to make sure nothing cracks or settles in a funny way.

Tail lights are '53 Pontiac and I got the idea from the Barris-built Chuck DeWitt '50 Ford convertible after my friend Octavio suggested them. He also hunted them down on ebay and I got very lucky because they are super hard to find in decent condition! Rear bumper is '50 Ford with the bolt holes shaved and a '52 Kaiser rear guard that I got from Charlie Haskell up in Oregon the same day he sold his bitchin' blue Model A hot rod at the LARS swap.

 

Looking good sssssavage!!!!! Can't wait to see it back on the streets!
