So, my trans guy says to me, "Dude, what happened here?" He was rollin' his eyes when he asked me.... "Geeze," I said, "I dunno'; Looks a tad bit ballOOned, don't it..." "Yer' a nut.", He said, "It's so ballooned, I can read the FORD logo from the flyweel bolt heads" He continued ta' shake his head when I tole him "Fer' every action, there is an equal n' opposite re-action;" or sumptin' like that: The unknown (E3 PKA tagged) '83 vintage AOD trans in my rusty ol' 63 Falcon had begun ta' make ominous noises in O/D at low speed/light throttle but it never slipped 'r stuttered. Worked fine @ 85-90mph on the way to the shop. The funny noises had gotten a whole lot funnier after puttin' in a new cam n' lifters, and all the squirreling around that went with 'em, but that'sa whole 'nother story... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=770079 We'd already been plannin' this excursion- so soon as my SilverFox STP1-CP constant pressure valve body http://www.silverfoxtrans.com/silverfoxtrans.com/VB_AOD.html arrived n' my trans builder got the kit with all the fancy blue clutches n' kevlar bands, a 2300 stall converter (and a open lift), I blasted south on I95 to his shop n' he yanked out the box- That's a H-D dresser oil pressure sending unit in the Throttle Valve pressure port- it's hooked up ta' a gauge on the dash...
But wait, there's more: A little crud in my pan: Prolly' from the cooked clutches in the direct/overdrive drum: And what's left of the outside of the direct drum and the overdive band: No sweat, we got parts from now 'till next Tuesday....
Nothing a bottle of Lucas Transmission majic won't fix The converter now that's another story. So how much Nitrous you sprayin there boss, or should I say how many stages?????? I told you not to use a boring bar on those Nitrous jets.
Hey TR, jest' a little ol' 600 Holley. You'd laugh at my cam n' intake, too. Anyhow: Reverse drum/OWC, forward drum n' new OD drum all built n' assembled n' ready for install: Direct drum n' O/D band installed: Newer/bigger/better accumulators- drums n' planetary n' output shaft installed installed:
My fancy valve body- sure don' look like much, do it? A new governor wit' a Trans-Go kit: Some black paint ta' dissipate heat. Stay tuned fer' the 2300RPM stall converter....
I wanna see it all. Car, motor, and rear. ### Kustom Falcon Build Thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=734282
Here 'ya go: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=34409 Nothin' really special but it's a lotta' fun.
After that Converter Balloning, burn't clutches and band how did the pump look? and did you measure the crankshaft lateral movement (thrust). I ran a transmission shop for a number of years and never seen a converter ballon to that extent.
Oh yeah, it got a new pump fer' sure! And a sun gear n' a planetary set. I should'a taken a picture of the end'a the output shaft- you'd be howlin'...it gotta' new one. I'll burn the crank end play/thrust bearing bridge when I get to it. Laffin'....
hey, if ya gotta fix it any way, ya might as well screw it up royally! i'd say you got your money's worth out of those parts
Dude, no where near as trick as this: Nice roller motor- cuz' I'm queer fer' anything MSD, I been thinkin' 'bout their throttle body FI set up. You gotta' Eldo set up, right? I know it ain't traditional, I grew up on BOSCH FI systems and have been thinkin' of goin' the MSD FI way just ta' screw with everybody....
EZ EFI. Believe it or not, the felllas at Edelbrock sold me on it. I figure if the competition can't help but compliment it, it's worth checkin out. Also, when it's mounted up with a cleaner, it looks pretty much like a carb. I love the MSD dizzy I've got. It's all self-contained, including the dials to set the curve and rev limiter. MSD E-Curve. ### Kustom Falcon Build Thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=734282
burntedoutmechanic, How much NOS are you shooting at that bitch? I have tore some stuff up in my time but you are batting a thousand my friend.
Oh, hey PB- No foolin' aside from a low rumblin' noise in O/D it worked just fine... We all know where the balloonin' came from- It usually started at a red traffic light sittin' next ta' a late model 5.0 or sumptin' that was sportin' way too much bass followed by me lookin' over at the Missus an' askin' "You ready?" Deathstar, LOL!
I told the missus once at a stop light "I ain't racin' this buffoon" and she slugged me. I guess she was ready. I am proud of you. break and build it stouter. That is the name of the game.
Converter finally made it here, 'course it was only built on Monday . DACCO PP7613 23-2500RPM stall Lets see how this one works....
