Great movie and story line, but where are the babes?

  6. The 55 needed an M-80 in it to make it look real!

Awesome! I laughed, I cried, etc,! Kinda like a modern "Plan 9 from outer Space"... Ya gotta love string tied to models and unlimited special effects budgets!

Now that was cool! Great camera angles and editing along with the whacky string pulling the models and the rippling, wrinkling paper(?) roadway make for the perfect combo of sublime and ridiculous. Classic '70s ending, too, with everything destroyed with no redemption or reason.

Of course, I wouldn't be doing my job as a model car nerd if I didn't point out that the MPC '50 Merc snap-together cop car kit wasn't released until 1979 or thereabouts. So I'm kinda thinking this was made more recently than 1971, or maybe even 2001!

  13. Very cool! I think many of us have done similar w/o the hi-tech filming!

Yahooooo!!! Man, the Willys pulled the front wheels at about 70mph!

I'm suddenly in the mood for a Gumby "Hot Rod Granny" episode.

That was great. Wish we had had a camera back then to film the demise of many an old AMT annual. LOL

Always made sure the axles would still turn on my old AMT models,so they could be moving when the M-80 glue bombs went off. Left a lot of burned, melted styrene on the sidewalk in front of my house back in the 60s. Think I worried my Mom a lot back then, she used to look at me funny while my models exploded. Come to think of it,the neighbors did, too.
My dad thought it was funny.....stupid,but funny..

Ha, too funny, I love how the road moves up and down when the cars fly by. The flames at the end are great.

    I laughed,I cried,I kissed 1:55 goodbye...

  30. as i understand this it is based on a true story, the cop knew they were going to race, but he really wasn't a cop, just a guy who stole the police car. the real cop found out from the girlfriend of the guy in the 55 [who he was sleeping with], so he used her car. the strings in real life were actually rope, but the rope was not available to comment [tied up]. the guy in the dragster died in the crash, the cop and the guy in the 55 died but not from the crash [which they survived] but from a sexually transmitted disease. to add realism it was filmed in the actual location, that was moved for better lighting.
