Well I thought that I would jump start this thread so it wouldnt die!
I have a 56 DeSoto 4 door that I want to build a El Camino out of.
I will have to extain the doors as they will look wrong if I dont. The roof will have to be cut down so it will be Proportioned right.
I also have a 47 DeSoto that I need to finish. I have not worked on it for 20 plus years. Just need to get the lead out.

This was my 1956 DeSoto Firedome, sold it a couple years ago. Push button Auto, PWR Steering, PWR Brakes, Hemi and Factory Air. Same old story, should have kept it.

Customizing the '51 De Soto Deluxe.
First, making tape proves to see the shape of the future scallop.
Then, after polishing, masking it to paint the scallop.
    The trunk pinstriping.
    Riding it quickly customized, yeah!

    I thought i would contribute :D

Here is an Australian 52 DeSoto that a buddy of mine owns, we turned it in to a two door from a four door and did a roof chop and made a kind of business coupe out of it.

The bumper is from a 1949 Plymouth. The car is a Diplomat series based on the Plymouth chassis and body so there are some differences from American production Desoto

OK. I knew that design of bumper was original on the 49 Plymouth.

Yeah, we chased down some 49 Plymouth bumpers locally and they fitted pretty easy in fact. ;)

I seriously considered a set, back when I built my '48 DeSoto, but money was very tight, so I didn't. They are still on my bucket list.

    I agree.
After my post I checked ebay. There was 3, a very rusty front for $395, a new rechrome for $695, and a rear Suburban (?), for $995:(.
I knew they had a DeSoto Suburban, but do not remember a Plymouth:confused:

Awesome '55, 345DeS! Now, is that Fireflite in there a 341 dually from '56/7? Just curious.

These cars were AWESOME in their class, but --stuck between Dodge on the LOW end and Chrys/Imp on the HIGH -- they were doomed. CONTRARY TO SOME POPULAR BELIEF, DeSoto's cancellation (though complicated) had very little to do with quality of product.;)

Very sad, but true! DeSoto had to compete for production space, and product placement at Chrvsler Corporation. In the financial mess that's always haunted Chrysler/Mopar, somethin had to give, that somethin was DeSoto in 1962:(

  30. Here are a couple of my 50 Desoto. Currently working on suspension....

I bought this car on a whim after seeing it on Craigslist here in Denver...got it beyond cheap....now after driving it and figuring out they are cool I don't see how I could part with it. Original car from WY...little old lady drove it to Rock Springs, WY train station every day where she worked. I hope she approves of what I am doing to "her".
