GREAT shot of Fonty and Herb goin' at it on the dirt, SWI!:D Any HAMB NASCAR nut know
what was the track and the date of this race? Both of the Hornets appear to be '53s. (If this pic
is from the '53 season, then Herb was headed for a runaway championship, his second Grand
    National Championship since 1951.)

Also, anybody know the circumstances around which Big Bill permitted drivers to hang that
screen out front for the dirt tracks? Sure was different from systems used in recent decades!
Again, FABULOUS shot of two great Hudson drivers in action there, Gary. What an amazing
-- though BRIEF -- time that flathead six Hornet Era was in NASCAR!

ADD: I should have also mentioned, Herb just EDGED Fonty Flock for his previous championship,
    in '51.

Holy cow, 29Bowtie. That's a bloody fortune sitting there (in today's dollars, anyway). Was there any INFO where you found this? E.g., place, year, who sequested these Cords, etc.? What a photo!

An old friend that is gone had a Cord back in the day. The shifter caused him trouble and he sold it for something like $25.

Maybe it's the same A-C-D graveyard that Tucker Fan 48 posted with the rusted out Tucker? How many Cord graveyards could there be???

  29. Here is the Claypool tunnel in Arizona, built in 1920-1. It served until the new tunnel cam in 1952 which is still in use.
