The engines I've heard with the off-road cams were in "street" cars.

Come on, ya gotta admit that if the sound of a Can Am car, Bonneville run at full song, or an altered's WaWaWaWaWa when it's not quit hooked up doesn't make ya smile a little, then ya ain't quite right. Kinda like chips, betcha can't pick just one.

Tough to beat the sound of a big Cammer at full song.

O/T, I always get a kick out of a tuned up "Buzzin Dozen".

I am a Chevy guy, but if you have ever seen and heard footage of Phil Bonner's red Falcon running on nitro. The cammer in that car is awesome.

on the street; through full mufflers; big block mopar from the muscle car era. (not that there's anything wrong with any of the suggestions so far; but the question was best)

    uncapped: anything...

I was on the back side of a hill, mowing a road up to the peak. He didn't know I was there, but I sure knew he was.

A 325 ci flathead running on 100% nitro on the dyno.
After that a 270 Offy timing in on a 1/2 mile dirt track.

  20. Most distinct and identifiable one I can think of is an old Cushman Eagle with a gutted muffler. Wish I still had my '58.

  22. wholly disagree - there is NOTHING worse than some uncorked wheezer 305 with no compression and a stock cam NOTHING.

...or maybe a 70 Z/28 with an LT-1 and the off road cam. something about a nice solid lifter cam gives me goosebumps.

How about a 30's single seat racer with a hopped up banger and six feet of straight pipe down the side of the body?

A large displacement early Chrysler (392 + 1/2 or 5/8 stroker), with an 8 or 10-71 @ 25% over and 60deg lead on 90 to 95% nitro. I dare say it's sweeter sounding with the throttle feathered doing a 1/8 mi burnout than a Merlin in a P-51.

The Chrysler simply had to be designed from jump street with something besides gasoline fuel in mind as natural as it is supercharged on methanol and nitro.

I have only heard the V-12 Ferrari on a video, but certainly in the running.
