I have a 2 x 2 offy without the generator mount. What was the reason for that option? It is in really good shape but will not work for my ride. Do you notice wood stove with drain oil drip in background? I recycle. Tim
I need to mount a fan on the front of the manifold and the generator on the side using a generator mount. I have a gen mount already. I should sell the Super Duel for a super deal. Tim
Early ('32-'48) Edelbrock super duals, and probably other makes, came with and without the front mounts. You'll find them at swap meets, online autions, etc.
You get better fuel distribution with the wider spaced carbs, but lose the stock gen mount. If you check out the January '13 issue of Hot Rod, they have a flathead intake shootout, and by their results you net about 10hp on the top end with a 'super dual' spaced intake vs a narrow spaced 2x2.
you can always use this mount that bolts to the front if you want to run the independent fan in the center. you can also use a slingshot bracket and put an alternator up front too.
The ones with no bracket are for '39-41 cars which did not need it...fan was on the crank and so after you moved the generator over you were done. They were also common on racers before cheap stroker kits and huge displacements obsoleted the dual for high end engines. You need the bracket for about anything else so you can work a fan into your short.. Better to buy only ones with brackets!
Also, a number of manufacturers made heads with generator mounts on them. My Offy Super Dual intake is matched to my Offy heads on my 8BA. See the "nubs" on the top? At least I THINK that's what they're for! Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Damnit, you're right. Small photo on my phone, bad memory on my part. Okay, I need the same help as the OP. What, where, how to mount the fan and generator???
Hey, I think I found what we're lookin' for... http://reds-headers.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=399 and... http://reds-headers.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=400 Is this what we need? Cuz if it is I'm ordering it tonight!!!
"daddio211" - Yep those are for 8BA's. The early ('48 and earlier) generator mounts bolt to the heads using longer studs. You notice there are left-handed and right-handed versions of those mounts. You should do a little planning and maybe even some mock up before you decide which one you need. Remember, the 8BA distributor is on the right front (passenger side) of the engine.
