Hey Jimi, thank you man! I knew you could get to the bottom of this. I kept hearing George Jetson when George O'Hanlon was speaking, so I was able to make that connection.

Jimi, you are one heck of an investigator! Thanks again.

Ahhh, the Atomium in Brussels, Belgium. I was there with my family last month. It's undergone a refurbishment and is all bright and shiny again - very Space Age.
The pic shows it during construction, soit must be late 1957 or 58.
    Awesomeness in stainless steel.
    Thanks for posting.

I remember trying to jump our 'Swimming pool' on mine, empty, in ground, concrete, rectangle that was all of 10x5ft wide and 3ft deep. We practiced safety though, I had long pants on and wore a crash baseball cap!
I remember my sister and a couple of local kids standing next to our 'concrete pond!' as I hit the ramp of cardboard.
Next thing I remember is being on the bottom of the pool with a flower laying on me and all the other kids gone. My ever thoughtful sister thought I was dead so placed the flower on me and went to watch TV Apparently the afternoon cartoons were starting! They were more important than telling my mother I was laying unconscious at the bottom of the pool.

A couple of weeks later I finally made it across on the Bigwheel. We threw lawn clippings in there so if I didn't make it again I had a soft landing.

You know what? This may explain a lot...............

growing up at Ft. Rucker alabama in the 50's my dad had a TR-3 and his buddy had a MGTD, would go road racing on the dirt roads outside the fort. I was about 8-9 and would ride with dad, that that was the koolest thing in the world at the time.Theres a restored TR-3 around here i see once in a while, sure brings back memories.

I like checking to see if the old buildings posted here are still in existence - this one is still there. That unusual awning appears to have been replaced but on the whole it still looks to be in pretty good shape.

Refried, do you have any history on the '37 Chev. picture, I'm almost sure I bought that Chev, over on Queen Ann Hill in early '66. Mine had identical grill and left front fender damage when I purchased it. I went on to re build the car ,putting in a '67 Pontiac OHC Sprint motor with a all syncro 3 speed trans , '57 Chev rear end and '53 Chev front brakes.
I ended up replacing the front sheet metal and deck lid before paint and a new interior.
I owned the car about 13 years before hitting a rough spot and having to sell it. I've been on the look out for it ever since, but no luck yet.
    PS. Thats post#55370

It was the 1950's that diesel took over virtually complete from steam, but diesels became common in the railroad yards in the 1930's, and the road units like the one being discussed became common in the 1940's, although they didn't take over many routes until after WWII.
