I've knew about this car 20 years or more.....been sitting in current shop 15 years...set in last shop close to 10 years......one of those you know about and just keep your mouth shut.......Saturday a friend in casual conversation told me it was finally for sale.....It's paid for and I'll pick it up Thurs. evening..............Don't know for sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but IT IS MINE FINALLY.............
Originally I wanted to put a 350 with 3x2's and a 4 Speed...headers and exaust coming out through the running boards at the rear wheel like a Nascar Exhaust....letter it up like an old race car and drive it......not all fixed up, just a Hot Rod Beater........I've got a 350 with Demon 3x2 setup still sitting in the machine shop........it's got a Turbo 350 and small block already sitting in it.......It may have to sit a while........bought in on impulse tonight within an hour of looking at it.......I'm making me a bed in the shop now....hehehe...nah, my wife said buy it if you want it....She's the Best....never complains at anything I buy.
People must be broke with all these barn finds poping up. There have been some good cars lately. Nice car love the 40's.
Gotta use what I have.........I'd love to have built Flatty with 3x2's and aluminum heads.....DO YOU REALIZE HOW MANY SMALL BLOCKS YOU CAN BUILD FOR WHAT A GOOD FLATTY WOULD COST?............Flatty's did right cost money
There's only 3 engines that belong in that car, and you already have 1 of them. SBC, hopped up flatty, 49-62 Cadillac. Ok, an early Olds would be 2nd runner up...
Put a black and decker aquarium pump in it, or maybe a 10 hp mercruiser! Lol! Run wacha brung! I like it, yes a flatty or an old olds or hemi would look proper but a sbc works, I'm building a 261 Chevy inline 6 and I could have built 2 sbc's for what this is costing me Anyways I'm watching this one
SBC ain't my choice either, but it's already set up for one, so go for it! Just get her running and leave the hood closed. Heck, it's a '40 Ford! And it's yours! You can't go wrong! Good things come to those who wait.
As someone who is between low and no bucks, my car has a Chevrolet in it as it has from 1967. More years with a Chevrolet in it than a flathead.
I love traditional as much as anyone, but sbc's are now traditional, several guys I knew in high school in '60-'61 ran sbc's in their 40 ford coupes (but of course we didn't call them sbc's back then, because it was before the bbc's)...you are certainly right about the cost differential between a Chev v-8 and a flathead...
I'm way jealous! Always wanted a 40 coupe!!!! And like Groovybaby said - I'd loose the tilt column. Just my 2cents......
Great find, put what YOU want in it. No need to apologize for runnin' the best engine ever built, if you choose.
