Crap, you are moving along fast. I was like sweet, updates. Then I see the rear 1/4s cut, the deck lid extended. Are you going to round the bottom edge of the deck lid or keep the peak?
UPDATE: I have made good progress on the rear quarter panel extensions this week. Alot of swearin and beer swillin' took place during this project. I made all of the patches and tacked them all in place. I am really stoked about the profile. The roof makes a nice line down to the end of the decklid - kinda fastback style. Maybe I should call this thing the jigsaw puzzler?
Wow you have done alot of metal movin since I last checked in!! Looking great, and I like the "outside the box" thinking that went into the trunk/quarters!!
Good morning amigos! - Just another progress shot of my shitbox. I am really stoked about the 56' Olds caps. They give the car a cleaner look. They should look pretty sharp with that Desoto grille. I got some great news a few weeks ago. If I can get my ass in gear, the car should be going in for paint in November. A guy that I know painted the Futurama 40, and he has an opening to get my car in for paint. He has a nice shop with a heated paintbooth. His work is class act for sure. This week I am hoping to get the front fenders extended and mounted with the grille. I have some work to get done around the house also, so not as much time for car work this week. But I sure do want to see a grille and fenders on there real soon.
That looks pretty smooth, good job! Those 56' Olds hubcaps are one choice for my project too,but i havent decided yet what to use.Keep it up!
Thanks for the kind words about my Cadillac Custom, Essex. It means a lot coming from someone like you. Between you, Royalshifter and Des, i want to go out to my car and throw rocks at her... lol. Keep the updates coming so i can keep this stiffy!
Hey thanks Finn - I am pretty stoked about those Olds caps. I have been looking for these since I saw them on Dixie Deluxe. I plan to polish em' up real good and sink some nice bullets in the centers.
Just another quick update on the shoebox. During the process of chopping the top, I shaved off the old rain gutters from both sides. I needed to add some style back into the roof as well as fix the rest of the upper door tops. So, I cold bent a piece of 3/8-inch roundbar starting from the bottom of the A-pilar all the way back across the roof to the top of the tail-light. I still need to finish weld and shape the peak, but I am happy with how it turned out. The first 3 shots are the replacement door-top piece. The 4th shot is the start of the round-bar forming.
And here are a couple of the round-bar tacked up in place. Once I get all the welding and hand-filing done, these should blend right in.
Thanks RockB1. I am going to fab the front inners out of spare roof sheetmetal that I have laying around. The rear is going to get a little tricky. Originally I was going to run some widened cycle fenders, but my tires are clear up into my damn roof. Now I am just gonna build sheetmetal enclosures that will work right into the floor sheetmetal.
I used 11" wide blank motorcycle fender with inner fenders.Pretty much same shit that OCC etc bike"builders" use in their builds. It worked fine and i think thats the only reasonable use for them.Bikes with really wide rear tires are just hideous..
Haha - Thats funny Finn. I agree - those Fat tire bikes are just terrible! Thanks for the tip on the cycle fenders.
