History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

  1. Push car is a '58 Bonneville. so, it could be a ht or conv, injected, tri powered or a 4bbl. Near cars, both of them. Love the tangerine paint.

  2. Thanks for posting this. I collect, among other things, pics of Pontiac race cars and think this is the first time I have seen this car.

Yes, I now see how it likely has twin headlights (58, not 57 as I thought). OOOPS

  7. Lloyd Moser later put the flat 4 from the Little Giant Killer in a back motored digger and ran in the 8's.

I was not trying to "prove (you) incorrect". I was simply trying to provide correct information about the origins of Beswick's car. I was also stating that the body was a fiberglass replica of a factory piece ("aftermarket", if you will by Ron Pellegrini) but also that the car had production line origins with that '64 GTO perimeter frame. If you had made your case with a pic of the Kingfisher Cuda up against Dyno Don's Eliminator Cyclone, then I wouldn't have said anything since that WAS a total aftermarket car (with a real Logghe tubular frame). My point was that the two cars you pictured were actually a little closer in the funny car "evolutionary" chain than you seemed to imply. Let's face it, they were evolving pretty fast back then and a car that was seen as state-of-the-art at the beginning of the season would often be an also-ran by the end.

Yes, Ben was part of that family, though as I remember, he didn't have much interest in the tractor business. He was more interested in racing, which I don't think the family approved of. He went on to run a funny car for a while in the '70's.

It is kind of interesting that it's a national meet with all west coast qualifiers.

  19. Larry, didn't that occur here once in awhile? Longhorn Nats, some of those AHRA "World Points" meets?

    Mike,
Yea, I'm pretty sure it did. Even at it's most popular time, I don't think AHRA had quite the draw that NHRA had for racers. That might be the reason some of the big names are missing at the event Doug posted. A "national" AHRA event might have the same pull as a "divisional" NHRA event.

As a side note, I'd be interested in what years Green Valley ran AHRA and what years they ran NHRA. I really don't have a clue.
