1961 401hp 390 was the first, followed by the '62 405hp 406 full size Fords and also optional on the 390 T-birds.

dang..they only put tri carb set ups on fe in 61 and 62?

  4. Pretty sure they were used on 61-63. 390 and 406 including T Birds
There were two version s of the factory manifold a straight deck (62-63 T Bird) and a slanted deck where each carb is slightly tilted (Full Size Car).

If you're looking for one, I may have a line on a set up.

those 390 tripower set-ups were dirt cheap swap meet items back in the 1980's. bought a complete set-up for $125 rebuilt the carbs and ran it on a 360 in an old 75 ford pickup. good running combo even on a stock motor. ofcourse gas was about 85 cents a gallon then.

A guy in here ran a 60 Starliner in stock class in 60 and used a dealer installed 3x2 system that he currently has on his 67 Fairlane 390.

  11. They are not that uncommon. I've got 2 Galaxie setups and 1 T-Bird as well as one of the Edelbrock's with 4 bolt Stromberg WW's.

The Edelbrocks are easy to get but don't perform nearly as well as the Fords. Carbs are too small & smaller runners.

Here are some Ford factory Tri-Power setups. The earliest is a '56 Factory 312 SHO type engine from the Ford Pico Rivera plant near Los Angeles. That manifold was made for Ford by a Performance manufacturer in that area. The others I think are all FE's. The '63 406 is now in my son's garage in Southern California. I do remember Mercury "Freeway Flyers" with a Ford 340 Y block with Tri-Power setups in '58 and '59 in my area too. Those cars were very fast on the open highways.

allright,so i just picked up one of these manifolds..it was from a guy on cl and it was dark..i just got the thing home and looked at it again.one of the push rod passage ways(sorry if thats not what its called) seems to be broken..i asked the guy about it and he said he didnt notice but doesnt feel like it would be a problem becuase the push rod doesnt ride on anything in that hole,,its just a hole for it to pass through..i hope this makes sense..and hope i didnt just waste money..ill try to post pics.

Don't have any thoughts on the pitting or the break in edge but I assume it'll be fine. But I don't have any experience to back it up.

But its great you brought this up. I just gave me factory tri power and Carbs complete with fuel rail linkage, etc. To my carb guru today for a rebuild.

Here is the pick up it may be going in

That is not broken. Don't worry about it at all. The pushrod clearance areas are not at all structural.

No problem at all. It's on the lighter side or normal.

  26. Holley two barrels are about the only carb that will fit. They must be the ones that have the inlet fitting on the side. The downleg holleys are too large to fit on the intake bolt pattern. The inlet castings touch. These have the inlet on a 45 degree slope protruding from the front bowl.

If you look at the photo's you can see the correct Carb. Ford carbs will not fit due to the accelerator pump on the front of the bowl. If you get regular Holley 2 barrels you can cut the round filter flange off.

  27. Pat did I not tell you the same thing?! Haha. Yeah the intake is fine. If you can fine the ford carbs that would be cool but the holleys will be just fine.
