Here's a few shots of the hammer form technique used to form the inner panel for the lower portion of the qtr window. pattern was made in paper first and transferred to the plywood. Again this was made from 18 guage sheet metal.
I just checked, you have been on this project for about 6 weeks, just amazing that you can keep focused on one project and not get sidetracked.
Thanks for the compliments. 3 projects are going on in our house, a 1978 datsun 280z and a 1950 chevy. the other 2 being built by my 17 and 19 year old son's. As a result I do get sidetracked.
One of my favorite builds! I love the progress and fab work. Thanks for taking the time to post all of the detailed pictures.
Fitzee Wife has a hard time dealing with the "greasy clothes" . Sure Hear about that a lot at the dinner table, Argh!!.
I also appreciate the play by play. I'm paying close attention. I'll be using this for reference when I get around to putting all my scrapmetal together!
You are a better man than I! Nice Job!! I know you may not mind all of the work making roadster sub-rails fit a 5 window but So-Cal is selling some real nice 5 window sub-rails. Just an FYI for ya. Keep up the good work. It's been fun watching you breath life into this car. Jeff
your best bet is to title thecar with original frame and numbers.. this is a great project. I had to rebuild my five window, luckily mine came with all the stock car and four door parts that I needed to put it together.
What do you do with all your spare time ?!!??! I was impressed with your build to say the least, now that I see you have 3 projects going I am amazed and impressed. Nice work and really nice to see you involved with your kids this way.
I have spent some time trying to align the old race car qtr. It's a mess! It looks pretty straight but it just is not right.
Good luck man!! And good for you...a long time to wait, but you got plenty of time to finish it now.. I love how you are scrounging parts up all over the place.. Way cool.. Cheers.
As luck would have it a fellow hamber contacted me and wanted to work out a trade for the old frame the car came with. His "bait" was the rear half of the missing left rear qtr panel for the coupe. well needless to say we were able to work out a deal. Here the part...
Now to try and fit this togehter. Here I am test fitting the panel I made and the front of the race car qtr. tack and try the fit, repeat. This also will allow me to over lay the back rear qtr. Here is where the time spent converting the 1/2 scale qtr drawing to full scale, will be put too good use. Notice the lines on the panels , these are Ford factory measurement lines transferred from the paper drawing. I cut the paper with small diamonds shapes on at the top and bottom of each line. I think used a majic marker and marked each line then drew the lines. Hopefully I can match the lines and cut the panel correctly.
Here's a couple more pictures i took when I was working on the drawing. Spent three days working on this!!
