worked on the top of the cowl this afternoon. It was filled at some point so I decided to dig around and see how it was closed up. After I removed a 1/4 inch of lead on the entire top I was pleased to see that it was just tacked in a few places. I cut the tacks loose..cleaned the edges of the vent up and reinstalled it. I was glad it wasn't welded up solid

That's killer! I've been recently lusting after some of the 3-window Deuces on here and this comes up. I'm definitely following this. Are you leaving the roof stock or chopping it?

awesome Ill be watching, dig the interior. On the cowl vent sometimes your happy people dont put the full effort into making it right and weld it solid, makes it easier to undo

Great car to put back into the world. It seems like these old hot rods never die and I am glad for that condition.

Spent this evening getting the back of the car and the roof stipped down. I thought there might be some surprises on the decklid skin but it was nice and clean with no rust. I was expecting to have to do some rust repair on it before louvering it..but it's in good shape. Some dents here and there in the roof..but no rot. I'm using 3m stripper wheels in a drill. Going to DA the whole thing with 80 grit next

some pics..don't know what is up with the floating circles..maybe the ghost of Henry Ford..haha

Congrats on finding that your body is basically sound. Really surprised that the cowl vent wasn't welded completely shut. I've got a 5w that was done in the very early 60's and my cowl vent has been closed an leaded over . Hope I find it as easy to reopen as you did. Keep the progress reports coming. I'm curious as to what you'll find next.

That's just the camera's flash highlighting the dust in the air. But I wouldn't be surprised if Henry's ghost was standing there going "Dang! My work lasted this long in this good a shape? I'm better at this than I thought!"

    Looks great, man.

Jerry, the car looks great. If you look at Hop Up Magazine online, Mark Morton is having a roadster built and he's putting the same vents in !

Wow, love the 32 build threads. Really like the fact that it's channled and no chop, that's what I'm planning for my 5w.

Busy with work and then attending the Jalopyrama..not much progress since my last post..but was back on it tonight. Got new metal welded into driver side cowl after taking the old vent out..both sides are now done.

Spent 3 days removing the most stubborn hinge pin of all time...heat..oil..heat oil...etc..what a bastard it was..but it's out. Luckily the rest came out with no problem and I pulled the doors off the car. Going to take off the front and rear suspension this week and hopefully get the body up on the body cart. More pics soon

Got the front suspension and steering off this morning. There was a home made engine cradle on there too that was welded on that I also cut off. Pulling the rear out tomorrow
