  4. Russ Meeks ran a six at the strip, built a longer car for Bonneville. amazing all the stuff packed inside that body. he's held vintage gas modified roadster class for several years, I think he plans a big jump this year. these photo's are about 6 years old and the car changes every year.

The same year that I went on active duty in the Submarine Navy my friend and partner Doug Smith and I built a 57 Chevy with a 292 to run in F/Modified Production called the Six-Fiend. We finished the car (more or less) just in time to flat tow to Indy from NY for the 66' US Nationals. We actually finished putting the car together in OH (can't remember the name of the strip) where we stopped to make some time trials on the way out. At Indy I broke the rear first round of class eliminations..... and it was a by run with only 3 cars in the class. We were done and disappointed to say the least. But we really had a lot of fun at our first National event. I don't remember who won class but I do remember Joe Lunati beat Dick Moroso (before there was a Moroso Performance) for the eliminator.

My connection to Kay Sissell was because I couldn't find any used 292 blocks here in the east so I bought two bare blocks from Kay. They were shipped to NY by bus.

Those are Hilborn units. Hilborn offers a Chevy injector that uses bolt on throttle bodies to the manifold plate and these are adapted to the head. Mike Kirby has been running the dragster for many years now.

Kay was a favorite of mine ! We met while in the tech line at the Winternats in 1969,really a great guy and not afraid to dare to be different.Sometimes He ran a fabricated head made from 3 327 fuelie pieces , furnace brazed together. Some pics don't show this crossflow set up but it did work well. That thing ripped !!

Since this has gone OT to be a general L6 rod discussion...

My uncle has an Anglia with a Ford six in it that I'm told was famous around NE Ohio tracks years ago. I'll see if I can find those pics and post them ...

Once my Buick gets to a stage that I'm satisfied with, my plans to build a 60's-inspired, Chevy 6 powered Hot Rod will begin to move forward...

I recall a Hot Rod article that was titled something like "Kay Sissell and his Sizzling' Six". It fascinated me tht this guy had dared to be different and was kicking butt!
