I am looking for tail light options for my 38 Chevy 2 door sedan. I was thinking about using 39 Chevy tail lights but wanted to see if anyone else had some options.
Hmm.....I have seen people use 58-60 Corvette tailites in 40 Fords. The 38 Chevy might have enough pitch to use them but they are pricey.
The 58 Corvette lights would look cool on my car. I might have to photo shop a pair on my car to see what they will look like.
Be careful Wagonmaster. when I made that suggestion I was told that with that kind of thinking I was on the wrong board. I'm putting them on my 39 Pontiac Coupe anyway. Neat combo tail, turn and brake light setup. Not an easy mount since I don't have an English wheel and the fender contour is quite different, but I'm working on it.
I ran the 39 Ford tail lights on my 37 but was never satisfied with the angle. With the new LED bulbs and complete light units I would probably be satisfied with them. Mine with the 1157 bulb was hard to see. I go lucky and found a guy with both 37 light stands on the HAMB and bought them. I still have one (left) light stand. Tons of new billet units out there also.
Taillamp stands for the OEM 37-38 lights are not that hard to find for sedans. Also, 37-52 Chevy pickups use the same lights BUT they are flat-backed with 2 studs making it much easier to make up some custom mounts for them. The 39 Chevy passenger lights, bullets mounted up on the quarter, also used on sedan deliveries, suburbans and panels up through 52 or so, are very nice and even recommended in addition to the OEM lights as high stop lights or combine for both functions. A little difficult to find unless they now reproduce them. 40 Chevy parklamps mount on the front fenders of 37-39 like they were made for them. Much more attractive than the spaceship lights used on them originally.
Where is this Alchemy? Are they reproducing these taillight assemblies? I did a search on the internet and came up empty. thanks Bill
Alchemy is a member here on the HAMB. Yes, they are reproducing them, and they are very nice- I bought a set. Here is his website: http://hotrodalchemy.com/
You have enough room to sink a pair of 59' caddies in each fender, but everyone has been there, done that!!! it would be cool though...
