Hi, I'm Jerry. You might know me from the Giant Speedster Project. Well, I was working in my shop today and it occurred to me that my workbench was really cool. Check out my pictures. What's your workbench look like? Jerry <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
Every time I run out of room I make another work space. Now no room for more tables, I have them all piled with crap. The welding table has a trans spread out on it, I welded the kid's exhaust up on my junk knees on the floor because of that. I gotta do something different. Good thing I don't have friends to make fun of me.
A guy said to me: "it's not that you have too much stuff, it is more like you have run out of horizontal surfaces". I say: "parts washer tanks should never have a flat cover; it should look like a 12-12 pitch roof" Try balancing piles of stuff on the front hood of a VW bug. Yes, It can be done...
What is the normal word in conjuction with cluster? It's not trashed or cluttered. Has nothing to do with oil viscocity, or maybe it does.
I have two benches. Unfortunately, both of them are knocked down right now, and in a friends basement. And I kept them organized, just like my six toolboxes. CANNOT work in a mess. For me it's "a place for everything, and everything in its place". Pix later, I hope.
Im with all you guys, I cant see or get to any of mine. Winter took its toll on cleaning the shop, we packed ourselves in like rats. I just put a car lift in, so it feels like i have even less room. I'd do some spring cleaning, but business just exploded and i got no time to clean. Why clean when i have a car that needs work? By the way, scrap is up right now. Thats where most of my clutter is going...
At the end of everyday I put up all my tools and clean my work table and usually blow the shop floor out. Always makes it nice to come in the next day to find a clean work area
theres a couple work benches in there... somewhere... <img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_6ZPeIFs40Xg/TYuVjn2nw1I/AAAAAAAABG8/Q_LGgTQn40c/s800/IMG_20110324_082829.jpg" height="600" width="800" />
If you can see the bench you are not working hard enough , I clean as I go but it just seems to build up. Rob.
Here all along I thought I was a messy garage guy, whew! Im relieved to see Im not the only one. My area is always a mess.. Not only can I find everything, but I can see everything at the same time!! This is one half.
no pics right at the moment, but i can tell you what it looks like.its clean. im kinda anal about everything in its place.ive got 2 work benches and a paint table and they all are as clean and neat. my shelfs are super organized.and im constantly working on something.ive got 5 projects going on now and its all pretty well neat.i do spend alot of time cleaning, i cant help it.
Here goes, everything has a place and everything is in its place. Only 20' x 20' (6m x 6m). You can't see the body rotisserie, engine and transmission stands and engine hoist.
My shed is in a similar state of untidiness, but why are we males constantly pestered to tidy up when we can locate most things effortlessly, perhaps having to move an item or two, when the complainant indoors can't find things having tidied up, and relocated them several times, quite often in the direction of the shed.
I'm amazed at those who can keep clean shops. I am not one of them when I'm working on a project. Don't see how people can do it. I'd be spending more time futzin' with where everything goes than working on the project. My shops a real mess right now.
A clean bench is a site to behold, I have never been able to keep mine free of stuff. At work, the boss usually looks out in the shop , finds the guy with the clean bench and gives him the work. I must look real busy.
