Mustang II front end tie rod question

I have a 1940 Ford Deluxe convertible with a Mustang II front end (looks to be Ford original, has their logo) -- unfortunately, it seems the tie rods are too long (ie. they make the wheels "splay out" wider than they should. I can't tighten down the tie rod ends any further (no more thread).

Are there different lenghts of tie rod ends for these, or different length of tie rod ends?

Any help would be appreciated on this. My other option is to take of the tie rods and machine them to have longer threads, but if there's something off-the-shelf that would help, that would save me a lot of time, effort and likely money.

I dont no how close they are but youmight have a pinto front end insted of the mustang 2 you might see if pinto tie rod ends are diffrent.They do look alot alike.

 

toe out, would be the correct term. Do you have the stock lower arms with strut rods? Might be more contributing to it than tie rod length. too much camber, etc. hard to diagnose from here.

 

if you only need a small amount you could cut a little 1/4" off the threads of the inner tierod and also cut off about 1/4" of the outer tie rods.

 

They have the stock one should fit right and they have longer ones for the afther market MII wider frontend.There is another thing may not be your problem but some kits have shorter lower controll arms and they want to be cut off on rack threads.

 

The standard must II tie rod end is 3.5 from zerk to end. Sometimes you will need to trim the inner down. There are also 5" and 6" long tie rods available if you need longer.

 

You may have a tbird rack, and associated tie rod ends, the rack fits, but the tie rods are longer.

is that lower control arm bushing missing, or is it the angle of the picture doing tricks.
also looks like the right side has crazy negative camber. again, could just be the pic.

 

Had this issue with my very first R&P on my '37. The vendor sent it with Granada TR ends which compared to the std. Mustang are quite a bit longer. Switch those to the smaller Mustang and you should have solved your issue. Walt

 

That looks like a afther market not Ford in any way.
I think you have shorten lower a frame.The tie rod end should be about 3 1/2 long.I have a Heights with a manual rack had the cut that side some thread off the rack threaded shaft.Best thing to do is find the middle if 3 and half turn lock to lock that would be 1 3/4 turns.Then see how it looks cut to fit.Your ps rack may have and extention.I would like to know if this car was ever driven with that front end.

 

It also looks like it was rubbing on the crossmember, and looks like the rear of the control arm is rubbing too.
