I'm not old enough to remember the old cruising days, but when I was in high school in the mid 90s, there were no cell phones or anything else to find out where your friends/girls were hanging out. You would be out and about and stop by the usual places to see who was there. Usually ended up at a diner to end the night.

Now that everyone is so easy to get in touch with, you don't have to drive around looking for them, you just call them and meet up with them.

    Yes:

    1. What does this have to do with anything?
    2. Why would you post something offensive on a board that frowns upon doing so?

It would only be offensive if I was serious.

They say possessing a sense of humor indicates intelligence.

I was, therefore, banking on the intelligence of the reader.

they still cruise here, hell we have a giant coast wide show that the coast cities fight over to have cruising sites set up at, here the car guys and the city officials see eye
to eye. crusin' the coast is a good sized show.

  6. We still cruise.
Our cruises are out to some place of interest some ones garage, car collations, airports, museums and casinos or just a good place to eat breakfast.
We meet once a month for breakfast and every other month we cruise to some place of interest
We also do the park and BS at our local cities street shows.
Plus in the summer we meet with our families at a local lake for a Picnic on Friday afternoons from 3:00 until ? :)
Our club The King Pins of La Mesa was started in 1954 at HELIX HI in
    La Mesa CA.
Not bad for some old farts.

I always wondered why the older cats want to stay home with that cool car in the garage, and not ride then bitch about the young guys we al acted like retards back in the day thats calld being a teenager but nobody cruises around here young or old sometimes if the temp is just right people with cool cars come out and let you see them then leave as the night falls, because the street lights are on ,i would love to cruise instead of cruise in and still the badass cars still stay home, witch raises the question why have the car at all?:D

  10. I do see loitering warning signs, no-cruise zones and all that. One bad apple spoils it for everybody. Stores don't want people just hanging around, cops don't either. I'm not bitching, I realize times have changed, evolved, for better or worse.

One thing I do know, I do still run my cars everywhere, all the time. Ain't no garage queens at my house. My rides get used as transportation anytime I need to go somewhere. Lots of folks like 'em, stop and ask questions, take pictures. I didn't build my cars for anyone but me, and I enjoy driving them. If some folks like to see 'em, that's great for the hobby overall. Especially when younger kids take an interest.

I get the point too, about facebook and all that- kids can find out what's going on before they ever leave the house. That's good I guess, but it does cut down on personal social interaction. We used to have to ride and ride to find out where the action was, but it was part of the fun.

As for me, I'll still drive around aimlessly and 'waste' the gas that I bought and paid for. I don't really care what kind of gas mileage I'm getting. "Smiles per gallon", I say. At least I get to listen to an american V8 rumble, and it'll drown out the fart-can Hondas. I feel sorry for kids today, it'd be tough to be 16 right now, and I sure wouldn't trade places with them..

  11. it all depends where you're at and what your mind set is. in my neck of the woods we cruise. we cruise through town, set up cruises in the country, etc. if there aren't any burnouts or people acting stupid, the cops leave us alone and wave.

We cruise all the time and yes it is usually to a cruise night or a car show. But here is the kicker they are all around 25 to 30 miles away except for our own cruise night which is 5min away. Drove over 9000 miles last year and yup sometimes just for dinner or coffee or just crusin up & down the main drag. It is not dead here in Canada yet or at least I don't think so.

Noticed a lot of these replies are about "Cruise Nights" or people getting together and "Cruzin" to the local car show. That is not Cruzin! Real cruzin' is dead because it's not the 50s and 60s anymore. Different time, different age.

We used to have a great cruise, but idiots with mini trucks and crotch rockets screwed it up for everyone else. We now have a no cruising ordinance

I spoke out of anger, and I was wrong. At the time, it seemed like there were no youngsters in this thread, and the older crowd was kind of blaming the younger crowd who wasn't present to defend themselves. That bothered me so I spouted off. The main guy I was talking to and I have worked out our differences and so it's all good.

"Cruising" was dead way before I showed up.

It's good that you don't get pissed off when people poke at the older folks. You're such a good person. It's nice to know you matured a bit through your lifetime. You deserve a freaking medal.

The guys with the "cool" cars are no longer trying to pickup a chick or find a drag race or drink beer illegally. He now needs a place for his lawn chair and has a fit if a skate board or bicycle comes near his baby. I think the good ol' days are gone here.

It was us that screwed it up ,not necessarily the kids of today. I'm 66 and did a lot of crazy crap in my day all in the name of fun. We road raced , had night drags, drank cheap wine, carried knives, got tickets , and wrapped cars around telephone poles on fri. nights. The ones that are calling out today's kids are not doing anyone any good with their bad mouthing.
If anyone ruined cruise nights it was probably me for doing the things kids do when they are with their buddy's. My drivers lic. was revoked from the time I reached the ripe old age of 18 for 5 years for the stunts I did---thank god they don't know about the things I didn't get caught doing.

The whole fast and furious crap . The fact is the kids today dont cruise the way we used to because they believe the stuff they see in movies and games . Most arent hands on with their cars , and dont understand that that stuff is all BS . They get into a car and think they are some bad ass street racer , and they buy into the whole attitude and image of what they see . Unfortunately , a lot of the general public dont distinguish between a ricer and hotrod , there all just trouble makers in cars .

  26. Truth is there was a lot of crap being slung on this thread. Not a lot different than what I remember being slung when I was still cruising. I'm sure someone was or is offended by it. Well done is done, bigger and better things for us to disagree about.

If someone got short with me its between them and me, no one else should get to wound up about it. Everyone else should maybe adopt the same attitude. Most of us are big kids, right?

Strange Agent is a stand up guy. He is what true Texans are made of, if someone disagrees with me let me know so I can call you a bad name.

I didn't read this whole thread, so I don't know if this statement has been made made, BUT!!!
Kids don't cruise anymore because the entire concept of driving is different.

It used to be taking a "family drive" was a family event. Instead of going 65+ MPH
to get where ever you NEEDED to be, you went 35-45 mph just to go out and GO.

    Before it was a

    "get to"

("Yay, we get to go for a drive!"),

    now it's just a

    "have-to"

("Gotta commute ('drive') two-hours to get to work,".),

no one does "have-to's" for fun.

Cruising is not dead, but is different to the way it was (this is normal for most everything). I see plenty of young kids cruising, but they are in cars that don’t appeal to me (but they don’t have to please me do they?) Some kids are ‘stupid’ some of the time, but this has been the case for every generation. As the moral fabric of westen society crumbles, some of these kids have had bad raising and need role models. I’d say its up to us OGs to get beside them and ‘connect’ – build a bridge to their culture and acknowledge some of what they do as legitimate when we see it. Make friends! Remember any OG going out of his way for you when you were young? Makes an impact don’t it?

22 years ago after my 1st trip to the USA (I’m an Aussie) and attending some great cruise nights, I returned determined to see regular cruise nights here! I invited 8-10 mates (American cars only) with a planned route which included a meeting point, ½ way stop & finish (20-30 min driving in between each). People loved it and now we regularly get 300-400 American cars & Harleys attend. Organised by mailing list (over 800) eliminates the unwanted factor and police are informed (we have their support as there is no trouble).
    <o:p> </o:p>
I still go out cruising on my own (which I love) and see others doing the same! If it’s not happening, make it happen with a few mates. Doesn’t need to be big to be good! Cruising is not dead – just different!
