Here's my Ambassador 990 Cross Country wagon project.

Unfortunately, I don't think I have enough lifetime left to get to this particular project!

It's one year too new ('65) to list in the HAMB classifieds, but if anyone needs an unbelievably cheap project or parts longroof, PM me.

My 63 Classic. With the possible exception of the "Ferrambo" (which I no longer consider a Rambler anyway) it has to be the only four wheel independent/disc brake Rambler wagon on earth!

I just put a new engine in it. Opted for a 4.0L lower end this time, not a 4.6L stroker. With the mods I have (Mopar Performance cam, 1999 equal length runner intake, 68mm throttle body, 98 head and exhaust manifold) it's just about the same power as the old 4.6L (which had a weak cam). More right now, but then the 4.6L was bored to typical big three specs instead of the tight 0.0015" piston to cylinder wall clearance AMC specified (0.009-0.0017") and didn't last long (60-70K) -- always used a little oil, then a lot. Discovered the "mistake" when I tore it down. Was an experienced machinist, he just bored as he always did instead of looking up the specs -- that's my best guess anyway. Was way back in late 1999, so can't complain now. Big three engines typically have a minimum of 0.0015" clearance with 0.0025" typical for cast pistons. Depends on piston type, hyper pistons are usually spec'd with 0.0015" minimum clearance.

How could a thread this awesome only have two stars?

I've owned two Ramblers although I've had a ton of 80s era AMCs.

My 63 Classic. Put about 7,000 miles on it in 5 months. The motor was tired when I got it and made a lot of noise. Wound up with a spun bearing. I sold it and then seen it a year later. Much to my surprise some guy was doing a full resto on it for his granddaughter.

My first Rambler, a 65 American. Sold it on the side of the road for 200 bucks when I spun a wheel bearing 3 hours from home. It was then I learned why one doesn't over tighten the wheel bearing nut.

Here's a local 2dr wagon I spotted a couple years ago and snapped some pics. Now I see the guys selling it for $650. He'll probably take less, it's been there forever! No dents, although description says it needs some patch panels and floor. All glass and trim intact.

Was a 232/automatic when I bought it. I put in an AMC 360/4 speed/9" Ford rear.
