One suggestion regarding your photography; don't "punch" the button when taking the pic.
Depress slowly, it will make a difference in clarity, even with a c-phone or Blackberry camera....

the 700r4 tranny is to wide and long to fit in the stock x member.

In one pic the rear bags look directly over rear, in another it looks like the bags are offset, which is it? Thanks

Greats welding ! I assume that was done with a TIG ? I only hope someday I can weld half as nice as that .........

 

actually its not tig, its all mig welded and full beads. I really enjoy welding and have worked on producing nice welds for awhile. you can do anything you want if you keep at it and never give up. I have faith that you will achieve your goals, just stick to them buddy.

here you can see i made the patterns out of cardboard for the floors sheet metal.














i still need to roll the beads in these panels.

 

we had scored a nice 1940 ford steering column and drop, looks like everything will hook nicely to the steering rack. column still needs to be shorted more, this is just mock up.

Do you have a pulse mig? What make? Any more detail on your welding process would be much appreciated by many of us.

 

Nothing special buddy, i just have a esab 253 mig machine. I do spend time cleaning and prepping before i weld, i also bevell everything to. I just try to stay as consistant as possible.

 

Some really fine work going on. I'm enjoying this thread.

 

My digital mig has a programm for tacks. It automatically shot a tack every x seconds so that you can keep on it.
Honestly i prefer to shot'em when i want, but its hard to be as consistant as Skoty here, it takes many years of practice, that i sure dont have.
Also, i hate it when the wire sticks to the fkn point! ah ah...

 

My welds are not a serious of tacks, they are 1 consistant stretch of weld. I do use your method on some things if i wanna keep the heat down and prevent under cut on certain applications when im welding at a hotter setting. I was thinking about doing a small clip on youtube of me welding and also welding overhead in full beads with same results you see in these pics. Ill try to see if i can make that happen soon.

 

Here are the panels for the middle part of the floor, again all the beads still need to be ran in these panels.

As far as the tack thechnique i was thinkin sheet metal for some reason, for thicker stuff i too lay full beads, but hell b4 i get to that "tidyness" its goin to be a while.

 

That would be impressive to see.
