Picked up this little beauty last saturday. I actually traded a non HAMB friendly customized 97 Chevy pickup for it. Its a 53 Chevy with a Chrysler 440 big block, 4 spd, detroit locker rear with 4:10 gears, tunnel ram w/dual quads. Runs like a beast ! Got a few thing to do to it to make it mine. Change throttle linkage, carpet, rear bumper, clean up etc. Cant wait to get it down the track!
I'd like to run an original bumper on it. The newest thing on the car is the carbs so im trying to keep it as original to the era as possible.
Yeah i know but its supposedly been like that for 5 years and it works fine from what i can see. Goes like hell i know that !!
Those "Edelbroken" tags on the front of those carbs can easily be removed. They are held on by a tap-in rivet/stud (tap in as in hammer). Take some needle nose pliers and twist the tag and they will either pop out (and can be tapped back in) or the tag will rip around the stud, then just tap the stud flush again. This might help mask the fact that those are newer carbs and give them the appearance of an older Carter (I do realize that these are shinier carbs than an old Carter but it can't hurt). I took one off a carb I have. (not a fan of advertising for a company that sold me two garbage camshafts but hey, that's another story ... I will say I went with a CompCams and had no issues).
What size shoe horn did they use to get the headers and Master cylinder to cohabitate in the same area. Damn that's close. Love the car though. Make it yours, make it safe and pound the hell out of it
I've heard rumors that some Chvy powered cars run fast too, but the one thing about a Mopar is, they rarely break compared to GM stuff (assuming factory internals in both). I hope you have a blast with it, and it's good retribution for all the Ford's and Mopars out there polluted with GM parts in them!
Man..... That is Saaa weeet!!!! I have a 54 Wagon in the bushes waiting for me to do something with? This has me to thinking????
Looks alot closer in pics than it is. Been that way for 5 years and never had any issues so we'll see.
it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to make some sort of heat shield for the master cylinder just in case
Seems to be a lot of Gasser type cars popping up lately. I haven't drag raced since 1969 and I just aquired the makings of one. If I can get it drivable I'll try to relearn how to drive one of those critters. My last drag car was a '67 camaro/ 402 BBC/Chrysler 4spd/4.88 12 bolt rear. It ran pretty consistant 10.90's. I'd like to scare myself one more time before I reach 70 and live to tell about it. That gives me about 4 more years to get the job done. Frank
Very cool (street freak JMO) love it with out the bumper and the pies are bitchin, thats gotta get the attention of Johnny Law but who cars if your doin the limit.........get out a drive the wheels off of it........
