This is a great list. As for Owlsly, I guess he was important in the role of catalyst to the creative genius of others.

Aircraft-Igor Sikorsky, engineer and pilot, flew what he built. He designed, built, and flew the first 4 engined plane, designed and built the PanAm Transatlantic Clippers, and the first helicopter. He was still working up until the day he died, at age 83. In my view, a lot like Tesla, another one who never got the credit he deserved.

    Tony,

I don't have anyone to add but I will say that I am a big fan of the cars you have built.

I still want this one. Remember to keep my name of the top of the list.

    John

If your going to mention Chip Foose, you have to add his dad, Sam Foose. The young man probably learned everything he know from his dad. In drag racing how about Don Garlits and TV Tommy Ivo, plus the "Snake & Mongoose".

Who, Ol' Purple? Sure, he was the recording engineer for the seminal Bluegrass Revival live concert album "Old and in The Way". And, ahem, sort of a recreational chemist. ;)

    Later, Kinky6

This gets better every day. Many, many great nominations here.

    Oh, yeah!

I wasn't aware of him, but I am now.

    Thanks, John. I won't forget.

I'm sure that Chip got his shop skills and some of his taste from his pop, but don't forget that he's also an Art Center-trained designer. He has had several exceptional teachers, and a lot of talent to boot.

    Absolutely.

It's funny this thread came up, as I've been pondering the greats in different fields, and looking for the reason they are the outliers.

I'm tickled to see this thread come up again.

Mason Williams and Roger Penske just popped into my brain, and they both deserve mention -- for wildly different reasons.
