Most people nowadays would laugh if you said there was a day when
doctors made house calls, AND pharmacies offered free home delivery!

LowCat, looks like a Red Cross sticker(?). What's really going on in this pic?

MrFire, your Post #11052 was a WEALTH of info! WOW.
    A BIG thank you!

If I sorted it all out right, the answer to whether the Tjaarda
car shown in the magazine made if off the drawing board
would be yes -- sort of. Sounds as though, as second-fiddle
at Briggs design department, he'd certainly admired the Tatra
streamlining and took the concept in his own direction. And
that work, in turn, eventually caught the eye of Edsel Ford
who channeled the work of Tjaarda and Roberts into the pro-
duction Lincoln Zephyr, via Gregoire. Is that pretty much accurate?

When's the last time you got your carb boiled? I bet they would also rivet new linings on your brakes and contour grind them too!

I guess the last time I paid 27.9 cents for a gallon of gas.
The tax on a gallon is more than that now...greedy corporate america?

I wonder if the $4.50 included remove and replace...I bet it did.

There's no disputing Ansel Adams' talent but those pictures were probably a little boring for readers at the time. I don't think overcast skys had anything to do with it.

We can appreciate them more now by looking back at what was L.A.

As evidenced by new workers living in trailer parks, little to no parking, crowded local eateries, a welfare dept. in the post office all signs of what might have been the beginning of it's huge growth spurt.

Fortune magazine obviously saw it and wanted it captured on film. I'm not sure he did it.

Skidrow housing? They almost look like somebody was living in at least the 30's Plymouth, the cardboard stuffed in the window might indicate that.

  17. In the sixth photo down that trailer in the foreground looks really neat. Those wire wheels might suggest English built, maybe?

Ansel Adams was the master of black and white photography. He could bring out the most minor details.

In the photo of the ladies (1959 Miss Saugus Stadium beauty contestants) my eye was drawn to the one on the far right too. I would love to see what they look like now.

Reminds me of Cameron Diaz. She definitely knew how to work the camera better than the others.

Both still happen here on the Gold Coast, not your regular "family" doctor, but an after hours mobile service will come to your home. A number of pharmacies will do free delivery.
