First roll out...Car is a cut up 5w that will have a Carson top and cabriolet roll-up windows. Trying to set ride height but need to choose tires...and decide on fenders or not. I thought I was going for the late 50s Cal look but My teen years of mid to late 60s is apparently influencing me. Around here then, the early rods had to have some sort of fenders by law. Also that is when rods started to use chrome or early mags or a mix. I tried all sorts of tire sizes and whites including too skinny 525/550x 16 in front...That looked real wrong to me. These black wheels/tires are rear 650x16 and 670x15 front fenders or not? Trim rings? I can't do center caps with the Olds rear with Stude wheels that would also fit the fronts Ford wheels. I like that famous red 3w with full rear fenders but had no fronts. ...or should I wait until the body is done and the top is on?
OK so you want to smell what I'm thinking. FTF for starters. Sure fender cars are OK but they lack that sinister look that I think a highboy should have. I can't tell you much about the state of California in general but in North cal by the later '50s you were beginning to see cars with Chromies and or mags on them. I'm going to guess it was the fellas with jobs or parents with money, if you catch my drift. I lean more towards Chromies or Steelies and I never was a big fan of hub caps. ASnyway that's what I'm thinkin'. If you like the smell of it.
I like it with the fenders. could you use studs or pins of some kind and have them be detachable? Then you could go either way depending on the mood? I`m obviously not super familiar with those cars , just tossing ideas.
Just a few bolts to take them off. I need to keep them anyway, in case I get the dreaded "safety inspection for any violation" if I get stopped for anything wrong on the car. Edit, added pic of cool old 41/48 chev tailights and striping on rear fenders from long time ago.
