Most cops are more than reasonable. Others though...not.

Yea like they spend any time lookin for it. Around here they would have to trip over a stolen car to find it.

  4. Like I said, when I moved to Beautiful Downtown Burbank in '79 my experience with the local constabulary was completely the opposite from a decade earlier.

  6. Cops in So Cal aren't worrying about petty ass VC violations on a hot rod or custom, they get it. Hell, majority of them have one. What is appealing for po-po to yank over is a shitty 91 Honda Accord packed down with shaved head parolees. Now thats a good time!

I never could figure out their gang bangin' hand signals...

  8. I was escorted out of town, by Moreno Valleys finest, ten years ago. I'm sure he picked up on the fact, I don't have an outside mirror & I'm not running the front tag. As soon as I turned off to cut through Reche Canyon. He just followed the bend on his way back around. It is two lanes the wholeway up, he could've gone around.. but he had no intentions of doing that. I hate that anticiapation, but I won't conform!

Driving my Mustang, a poorly navigated dirt road resulted in a chopped-off STOP sign pole ripping off the driver's side muffler. I had to disturb the peace for 15 miles home at 2am with only one muffler. I was coasting down a road close to home and the car behind me lit up the red and blues. I told the officer what happened and showed him my severed muffler and tailpipe shoved in the trunk. Upon which he laughed and patted me on the back and said, "Get home son. Here's my card. If you need any help welding that thing back on give me a call." Even being as young as 16 driving that car, I never felt profiled or like there was a target on my back. All the attention from the Police I've ever got driving my car has been well deserved!

My wife writes their paychecks so I get no hassle. I don't abuse it though. I don't worry about driving my car to my buddies garage with no front end on it on the rare occasion.

I don't worry about zipping up and down the street on something I've just bought with no plates.

My wife does get mad when one of them mentions that I shouldn't be running up and down the road with no plates though.

I ride my motorcycle 90% of the time in town and across the river in the next state. I think I've had it inspected once in the last 10 years. (yearly inspection required)

LOL, maybe that is abusing it.

I had a local cop help move a body, no problems here.

  20. I have NO trouble with the police in my non HAMB friendly '69 Cougar ( Sorry, the F100 will be a few years yet. :D )
The ones I have trouble with are the kids. Every kid with a Neon sporting a wing wants to race, and every kid on a Spree wants to know what I'll "take for it."

I think some of the problem might be them hireing cops too young, they have no clue, and no respect., very little training,.and alot of the young ones just wanna play billy bad ass, after they had their nose pushed in the sand just a few years ago in kindergarten and want pay back.

the older ones seem to have more on the ball and arent playing cowboy as much

the ones i know and socalize with are over 40, and act like it

  22. Wrongoi! The Shadow was built in the good ol' USA with a Chrysler 2.2L or 2.5L four-banger. Some did have the little Mitsu V6, but the Shadow is definitely NOT a ricer, no matter how you define it.

The local heat here is very old car and hot rod friendly. Several of them are car dudes and give you thumbs up and no hassle if you aren't burning the hides or speeding. A little story on my bro coming back to Omaha from the Rust Revival show, he was pulled over for a 78 in a 55--officer says to him - pedal to the metal!!, would you belive 78?, he comes back after running his info and says, o.k. givin you a break on the cool car clause! It was in Iowa where 20 over they can pull your license on the spot and charge you with reckless driving and you are calling a tow truck. So no complaints from our hood at this time. ~Sololobo~

My Plymouth died rounding a traffic circle and came to a complete stop, the local P.D. saw my car die and he rushed to help me push it to a nearby driveway while parking his car to protect us in traffic. Then we talked about what could be wrong.... straight up guy! (electric gas pump went dry rounding the curve, gas gauge is a tad off I guess!)

I was traveling with a pal to meet halfway between Dallas and KC to swap a roots blower for a centrifical (Craigslist deal), in an 84 Omni, cop pulled us over at 3am on the way back (just checkin, i guess) we may have been goin 5 mph over, and he didn't believe the broken speedo line, till he saw that it still read "55" sitting there, parked.

we told him the gps gave mph readings, when he mentioned our lack of wipers, we mentioned the case of Rainex in the hatch, to which he replied, "oh, Gawd... there's lots of deer around, be carefull- wouldn't want you to total it"

    cool cop.

I usually just get hassled because I'm keeping "human remains" on my property.....

Oh, and we're not fags or paranoid.

Well I have been a cop for 10 years and the easiest way to get a ticket is to be an asshole so the flip side of the coin is the same. I for one dont fuck with hot rodders or bikers when I pull them over its to check out the ride (if time permits for the both of us). I have seen these same people at different shows and always have a cold one with them. In a bigger / busier city you really dont have time to fuck with people for load pipes or other shit.

*edit* As far as the rice burners I dont really like them but I can appericate the time and effort put into the nicer ones.

  29. No never do.
But to them I'm just an old dude in an old car.

  30. I needed an oil spill back in the early '90s, on the night that I got popped on I-10 in east New Orleans for-
    A- 65mph over in a 70 mph zone
    B- noise violation (open headers)
    C- wreckless operation.
Even though the cop was driving a 5.0 Mustang, he had no appreciation at all for my red '92 5.0 LX ragtop. Go figure?!

Louisiana cops tore me a new asshole on a regular basis. I guess it didn't help that I got my first Corvette at the tender age of 19 in 1990. It was a black '85 with the Z51 package. I used to drive it like I just robbed a bank, still don't understand how I lived through it.
