I'm about to start playing around with reversing wheels. Just a skill I always wanted to master. I did a search, and there are a ton of techs for steel wheels. What I am curious about, is what is the deal with wheels that are welded when they have an aluminum alloy center welded to a steel hoop? Like Keystones, are certain Cragars?
I think that the aluminum center has a steel ring added to it as it was forged, and that is then welded to the rim.
Yup...steel slugs in the mold when the aluminum is poured. Not enough heat from the welding to discolor the chrome rim.
That would just make too much sense. So, it may not be advised, but technically they could be cut apart and rewelded?
