Well i got this Model A about 4 months ago and i just finished my frame up last night besides grinding down the welds. I have done a couple other things in the mean time like replace some body panels but the body has alot of work that needs to be done still. Drilling holes in the front axle cutting my frame tubing the back half is welded flipped over to weld the bottoms marking the hole for the front 3'' tube Uncle cutting the holes with the plasma just welded the front tube in the finished product, 4in Z up front with an 18 Z out back.
looks good. what drivetrain you running? pics of the body progress? thats a hell of a work table there too
Wow 18" at the back, that is low. If you had your time again would you drill your frame on a drill press or using a hole saw? Thanks for posting, looking forward to following this build.
Hey thank you, I plan on runnin a chevy 350 with either a munci or t-10, and i have a 9'' ford out back and i am not sure on what gears i will put in yet. I will put some body pics on asap i just have to download them from a different camera. And ya it is actually 3 tables all pushed together, i built the frame in my uncles shop and he builds customs fences/gates so he needs it pretty big.
Hey thanks! Ya i had to go 18 because i want the car to sit about 5-6in off the ground and i have 750-16 tires/wheels out back so i basically had no choice, with the 18'' Z i should have around 5''+- of travel. And if i was to cut those holes again i would of planned on doing them in a drill press before i welded the frame, but i must say the plasma sure cut them out really quick.
Here are some of the panels I have started to replace. The front right quarter panel The left front quarter panel The left bottom panel right behind the door This one is not welded in yet, it does not fit like it is suppose to, i might just end up makin one out of sheet metal. I got my 9'' rear end
Looking good!!!... Iam building a 30 seadan i did my rails i used a hole saw actually 4 different size hole saws and a lot of oil and a lot of time. My frame is kicked up 16 in the rear and straight through in the front
Hey thanks man! i just looked at your build and your car looks really good! I really like what you did with your front rails, good choice. I also love your front suspension, pretty bad ass! keep up the good work man! I might have to ask you some questions later on, on how you channeled your body, I have a couple ideas just not 100 percent on them.
Just picked up my 350 chev earlier this week from a friend, it has ported and polished camel hump heads. It needs a couple things like intake and carb, i was plannin on runnin the tri power set up so if anyone as one they want to sell please let me know. I also need a water pump, pulleys, harmonic balancer, starter, plug wires, fuel pump, and distributor
Hey guys, its been a while since I have done some updates, but that is because I was having issues with my camera and just trying to figure out my next step. But since I made this thread I shorten my frame up 7in. back to stock because I realized I did not need the extra length. I also added some supports to Z's and I finally got my car in a mach up stage to see how she will be sitting.
I welded my frame on my uncles table he uses for building fences, I made sure it was level and square, triple checked.
Hey thanks guys! I appreciate the kind words. I hope to have a rolling chasis soon, I just need to take it one step at a time, i tend to get over whelmed.
The door patch wont work because whoever made it left the bottom straight. The bottom bead on these cars are curved because of the angle and the compound curve in the door. I dont know why they try and get away with making patch panels like that. I have 3 laying around that my customers had to trash because they dont fit!
Great pic's & Gonna be a Cool Build. So will you have any issues getting this thing registered for Road use, having built your own Frame? Just curious to understand the laws over there.
yeah I was pretty frustrated when i put it in there, but i might just try and make my own out of sheet metal with out the bead.
