I know our car will only run 8s on alky, but sportin' the breather mask and goggles was always a big part of the dream, and it's frustrating that as of last year full face helmets have been required.

I'm not sure, but did all of this stem from Brendan Murry's boomer at the '07 NHRR? I can see it maybe for top fuel then, but what a drag for the NE classes- especially injected cars. I can't recall one ever grenading.

Anyway... I was just checking the ANRA site, and the Eagle Field deal, and it looks like both are upholding the ban. I was hoping there was a place out west to be able to run a current open face with a new mask and goggles, but I guess not...

    Wah! ;-)

    i'm an ANRA guy.
    here's the deal...

there are no tracks out here that operate outside NHRA.

    why???

if you don't tow the NHRA line on certain safety stuff, the sanctioned track wont let you run or your ASO gets yanked. bummer i know.

    either way,
    breather masks and goggles suck.
they're uncomfortable and hard to see out of.

    cool? yes.
    practical? not really.

maybe one day we'll be able to get them back.

  3. Race outlaw. Let the big dollar guys do whatever the hell they want.

I've been kind of watching and it seems that "Nostalgia" racing is just a late dragster made to look like an early runner. But there is a whole bunch of fellas starting to "Vintage Race" its the real deal.

Anyway if you don't like the rules race outlaw.

    PB-

I'm unaware of any place to race out west that doesn't abide by NHRA rules. I was hoping Eagle Field, but apparently not. Perhaps the Kingdon Reunion once a year. But it's not like the midwest and south where there are independent tracks in California or Oregon.

It's all about going fast. It's not about dressing up for the part.
    That's reserved for Halloween.

If it was just all about going fast, I'd build a modern rear engine dragster and be done with it. I'm doing this deal to recreate an era I've always been jazzed about, and it's as much hot rod as race car, and a traditional one at that.

Then why bother building a period-correct drag car? You might as well build a modern drag car.

I know what you mean, but if that's his car in his avatar, then he missed the whole facemask, open helmet era anyways.
    Nice dragster, though...gotta love it

have your helmet air brushed to lookk like you are wearing the appropriate era correct items.

at least that way it kinda looks the part from the stands...

I think slower et cars the mask and goggles should be ok. Injected alky or gas ok, blown alky gas, or nitro. No mask. Lippy

Then why not use an old leather helmet as well. Safety has no time line.

  21. doesn't impact make a breather equipped helmet??

come on out and run some anra....

hands down the best racing experience from a racers standpoint. the ANRA staff and the famoso staff are GREAT.

    they deliver. period.

Rear engine cars are inherantly safer than front engine cars, should we ban the slingshots then?

Plus it's not like these weren't legal up until last year, or that I think folks should be able to run actual 1960's helmets and facemasks. It's also not like it didn't work failry well even with Brendan's boomer. From the looks of it, I think even if he'd had a full face helmet he would have gotten singed due to the magnitude of the explosion. It just seems more like a reactionary move based on one incident to ban them across the board. I can see banning them once you get to 7.0 pro and quicker or something, but in the NE cars should be fine. Just my opinion of course.

You could still wear the mask when you go for groceries, or drop off the kids at school or in church.

My first thought was to airbrush a full faced helmet as mentioned. You get to keep your teeth if the engine grenades in your face too. Then everyone's a winner.

It's not uncommon for the concussion from a real boomer to blow the visor up and even off on a full face, and I can think of one unfortunate Alcohol driver who was killed when his visor was blown off . Had he survived, he would have been blind...it was a really bad deal.
When I ran my car back in the 90's, I wore my Simpson mask and goggles because I felt safer with them. When I run my new car in the future, I'll wear the mask wherever and whenever I can get away with it. Lots of outlaw tracks in my neck of the woods.
