Just the window regulators are worth the save.. I put specialty power windows in mine, since I didn't have any @ the time. I had a choice between the two. A 56 Bel Air HT, w/ the firewall all the way back to the truck sill cut out (it was a Glamis Dunes tube chassis car) an I chose the lesser of two evils. Which was this 57 here. Been my shop truck for 13 yrs now. You'll see in the picture, the trunk won't close cos the fins bent in & blocking it from goiing down any further. While building the '57, I put a Shaved & customized '56 dash in it. Now, everyday I can pretend I made the right choice back then, and built the '56 Chevy. But 55's are always cool! Here's after 2yrs..
Thanks for that link. Not to hijack but that guy is about the most determined person I have ever seen. if you want it bad enough you can make it happen. I am never going to complain about rust again. Looking forward to more pics of the upside down chevy.
any truth to those stories of something like that coming out of mexico, getting restored and then coming up as a stolen vehicle?
If you don't want it, give it to this guy. He ain't afraid of ANYTHING. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=396234
If the floors, body mounts, and frame are rust free, cut the top off at the rockers and slip it under a rust mobile.
pics! doors need extra love, i have some quarters and other 2d post parts would need a roof skin, already straightened rear window opening as you can see it was a little bent down on the left side, enjoy the pics more will come its going to be my side project
oh much worse than we thought.. the ol 55 truck only got stuck once a huge bush under the front axle..lol
Wow, way better than I thought it would be. Judging by that last pic, I would have went and got it too. Did you bang the roof out? Nice job saving her.
Looks cool. the frame & white cowl from a tri-5, was that in the same area or did you already drag that one home? And you have the trunklid back on, already one step closer to the road!
HaHa! Exactly what I was thinking! I'm working on a 57 2door wagon, and its got major rust in most of the floor, rear quarters, frnt fenders, and parts of the roof. With yours it looks like you just need to bang the panels straight, and patch a few (hundred) bullet holes. Get at 'er! Ralph
Ive always wanted to chop a 2dr sedan and use the windshield/back glass openings from a 2dr HT (2"shorter) so I wouldnt have to cut any curved glass. I figured that they would be next to impossible to find though! I thought that this would have been a perfect candidate, and in my price range! Now that I see it rolled over and mocked back together, it looks like you might be able to save it with a bit of work! Good luck! I guess Ill just keep looking!
That would be a fun body to drop as is on some "high buck" fancy chassis, then assemble it enough to be a driver....just for the shock factor!
You would be a god if you got that thing in running condition and just left all the holes and rust. Be sure to put pics of how you found it laying on the dash for the car shows... Find yourself a running driving parts car and do that build as cheaply as possible lol.
