"I heard" that the RPUs were popular with orange growers in CA and FL. They could drive through their groves with the top down, stand up, and inspect fruit without getting out. Plus it had all the utility of a pickup truck. I don't know how much of that is true, but they do seem to be found in the sunny states. That is a very VERY cool truck. Enjoy it!
Love the truck.I am pretty much going to do the same to the one I bought also.Just enjoy it for a good while.
Well, OK, if you don't want to do a 600CI, 10-71 blown Hemi, 6spd, 9" rear w/14X32 M&H wrinkle walls I supose leaving it stock IS one option. Frank
The big reason they were popular with growers was simply that they were cheaper than closed cab pickups, lots of growers had AA roadster bodied flatbeds too.
quick Florida Roadster Pick-up story: 40 yrs ago, uncle had a fishing shack and an orange grove on lake Ochechobee. my dad went down with my uncle to fish, hot water tank went out. uncle had a mod A R/P in a shed, traded it for a used hot water tank. dad said new owner drove it on to the trailer. i never knew it was there.
