I was just watching American Pickers and they were at some old ladys house looking through her deceased husbands garages/storage sheds and they found car club plaque. The plaque was from a club called the HEADERS and had a picture of two exhaust manifolds on it. Does anyone know of the club? Does it still exist? Any info on it?

    Thanks, Jim

We have a Header's Car Club in the Mid-Michigan area. Different Logo though. 1st established in 1955 then resurrected several years ago with the original by-laws. There are several on here that have Jackets and are concidered members. No meetings, no dues, just a group of guys that have known each other for more years than we want to admit.

The plaque was different from this one. It had the word HEADERS on the to half of the plate and then under it there was 2 small exhaust manifolds with a little bit of space between them. I didnt see a location name on it.

Do you remember where she lived? That would be a good start.

I am pretty sure it was in Illinois. I am waiting on a fellow HAMBer to get some pictures of a club plaque and jacket from his father who was in the HEADERS cc in Illinois.

  10. I just watched that episode again (via DVR) ... it stated that she lived in "Northern Indiana" ... Here's a still of the plaque:

Thanks for the pic of it. Hopefully someone will have some more info on it!

  13. Flathead26T ... No problem, my pleasure ... sorry about the poor quality of the pic ... it's a (digital point & shoot) shot off of my TV screen.

I thought Bill Junge (Bullet Nose) would have chimed in by now ... his very cool Car Club Plaques website doesn't have this version of the "HEADERS" plaque ... just these 3:

I did on post #2 but was waiting for more info as I missed that episode. I have several other Headers plaques on my plaque pages but they all have locations on them like these .....

Last Saturday I was talking about plaques with a fellow club member and he told me his dad belonged to a Headers club in So. Calif and that he has his dad's plaque hanging in his garage. I'm going to go over to take a photo of it.

I also checked Dennis O'Brien's list and he has a Headers plaque without a location on it. Maybe it's the one. The other Headers plaques I have do not have the pair of headers graphics.

The Plaque from pickers looks very simplistic. Along with not having a town, leads me to believe it may have been a "generic" plaque sold back in the day by J.C. Whitney etc. so any group from any town could start a club on the cheap. They used to offer at least a couple dozen generic plaques including Cam Busters, Sinners, etc.

    Jim,

Do you remember if they bought the plaque from her?

I have enjoyed seeing some of the stuff they uncover on that show but don't like it when they buy things as cheap as they can. Especially when they know what it's worth and give themselves high fives after they have it loaded in their van, and on the way to their next "mark".

  17. Bullet Nose ... yes they bought the plaque from her ... the picture I posted of it (post #10) is from the end of the "Northern Indiana Widow" segment (when they recapped their purchases) ... IIRC, they paid $10 for it and estimated it was worth $25 ... the pic doesn't really show its poor condition ... the aluminum had already started to corrode ... with lots of pitting on both the flat & raised surfaces.

As you can see there are at least three from Ill (Rockford, Rosewood and East St. Louis)

Here's the pictures of the non-city ones:

They are all from Chicago Metal Craft (and all available to anyone who needs one - and mine aren't pitted or corroded:rolleyes:)

  20. Opps, started that post earlier and just finished it. Guess the Illinois stuff in irrelevant.

But now we know who made the one they found (and who now owns the pattern).

Thanks for the pics Dennis. That last one that you posted is the some one that they found in the show.

In 1957 and 1958 I belonged to a car club in San Bernardino, CA called HEADERS. I don't know if anyone has a plaque from there ?

    :D
:DI saw the same Pickers show and remembered that I belonged to a HEADERS car club in San Bernardino, CA in 1957-1958. Wish someone had one of our old plaques.

  25. Sorry I can't be of any help - out of 15,000 plaques I don't have a single one that says San Bernadino on it and only the Sidewinders, Tach Twisters, Creepers, Voodoo Nation CC, Igniters and Scallywags from Berdoo

Me neither. Only have these photos .....

Not too long ago I was contacted by an American Pickers researcher wanting some background info about plaques. He said they found another car club plaque and it will be featured on an upcoming show.

Any chance that this was your club?

It was added in January of 2013.

How would you expect them to make money if they paid full price? You can't possibly think stores you shop at sell items for what they pay for them?
