I'd have to look it up but usually in the day a mild custom was defined by the International Show Car Association rulebook for show classes or whatever Show Car Body was the sponsor of your local yearly Car Show or the club that started the show and who they were affiliated with.
Mild cutom buick. Frenched headlights, shaved door handles, lowered, different tailights, and custom interior
whats really in a name anyway, call your car what you want, be carefull what you say about somebody elses.and remember trying to give it a name is exactly what lead to the overuse of the word "RAT ROD" now tuner kinds are sprayin honda civics flat black and that my friend was the day the music died
Here's a good example of a mild custom, a '54 Chevy that's nosed, decked, lowered, lake pipes, Caddy caps and some pin striping. Does get any better then this example. CRUISER
I think its all been covered above but I like to jump at the chance to park my Cad in the lot. Its a mild custom the 38 in my avatar is a full Kustom.
I had the same sort of question, because a "mild custom" is what I'd like to do to my dad's '33 truck. Leave the body stock but lower the suspension an inch or two, figure out the paintjob and pinstripe I want to do, and some performance mods. I basically call it a "hot rod sleeper".
I'd say if there were just one modification to cross a vehicle over from stock to mild custom it would be lowering the car. Without touching the factory styling you're able to change the car's whole profile to something in common with some of the wildest customs.
Yeah the ring deal I get, but the dice? You're kidding, right? Many of us grey-beards know where they came from so howz about you tell the real story for the benefit of the youth on board. I'll give a clue...Lucky 7 Car Wash. Take it away HAMB.
Thanks for the explanations and pictures, that's what I'd like to do.....a mild custom. Now, explain nosed and decked ( I assume removing the emblems?). Thanks. Now I will sit back, shut up and continue to learn from you guys.
Nosing means removing the hood emblem(s), decked means removing the trunk emblem(s). Both are considered basic first steps in building a custom car. Many street driven customs in my day - late '50s and onward - featured only nosing, decking, lowering, custom hubcaps and dual exhaust. These were considered mild customs in the day, though a simple grille change, simple tail light modifications and shaved door handles were often included as well. I still prefer mild customs over more radical ones. I guess it's because I can identify with the simple, clean and inexpensive mods involved in building them.
