Actually... speaking as someone who has a really, really small budget for hot rod parts, trading for that bundle of junk and straightening it out myself would be the only option. It just comes down to how bad you want it.

Great job, Neal. It looks really nice.

Way past my limited skills ... :)

Good to see the save ... impressive ... and I also like the fact that you are using original 32 stuff.

    Thanks for the post.

No fair! My doors are still laying in a million pieces, and that grille is back together. I want to trade back!

To all who inquired, Nealin and I traded each other our piles of junk, and it probably cost us more in shipping that what the parts were worth. Until he fixed his.

Alright I'll admit to being one of the "naysayers"... But in reality it was just to push him to git er done! I honestly had no doubts about Neal being able to save that "bundle of sticks"...

    Awesome post Neal!

Great work. Really neat stuff coming from your CA garage.

Made me laugh. I sold one where your pile made mine look like NOS.

    I'm such a douche!

Thanks for the positive feedback, sometimes I wonder if I'm crazy.

I've rounded up enough bars to fiil in the insert and have some more on the way (some that are in there are'nt up to par). Any way, here it is in place on my old Fordor...

I'm planning on posting an update in the next week or so...

Just came across this old thread. I too have a bundle of mangled grille bars.

My shell is beyond saving though.

It's become wall art along with my twisted Superbell axle.

I've got the grille bars for someone if they need them.

i think an even better point to be made is ...that you saved something....something that was written off...was brought back from the dead, if that insert could talk ....it has been places ,and endured many insults,....and it is alive again! .... Best part yet it never came over here on a boat from china with a million others...... I bet it fitsway better than one from gearhead enterprises too!

  23. Bingo...

The grille looks like it's been on that '32 forever...

    Nice save, great tech!

  24. be great on you rat rod.......just kidding. hats off to you guys that have that much talent. i can screw a nut an bolt together..that is if their the same thread. good work sir.

Great post . I just started fixing up a really sad orig. I have one spreader I thought was hopeless but now I see that it CAN be straightened out. If my avatar's grill changes to an orig insert you have my thanks.

I have been meaning to try this for months, but have been too lazy to take apart the insert. Anyway, I have straightened 3 so far and it is working great! only 40+something more to go...

the bars on my insert are kinda bent like yours was and missing a few tabs. Anyone know if they make that part liike the guy above asked?

Also any pics of how you did it on the shrinker? I guess Im still not getting it.

I noticed that the seats in a 48 ford have the v-ed sheetmetal simuliar to the truck bars if that helps anybody. They are to hold the springs inline.
