I've always like this pic of Johnny Parsons, Jr. in his step-dad's car at IRP in 1970. A Watson with a 255 Offy. Later that year, they put a cage and a wing on it and Dana Carter took it back to the Keystone State to run the Williams Grove Open.

Everyone always welds a bushing on the end of the tubing for the bolt fastener. 'Never seen someone notch the tubing and use flat stock. 'Like it! 'Just like the first time I saw the way Bob Trostle made the radius rod mounts on his front axles. Instead of using flat stock, he bent about a 10" long piece of tubing around the axle with bushing mounts on the top and bottom. And I like the fit you got on that nice lookin' nose. That's not easy. So, thanks again!

Josh, How did you form the curlie-Q on the top fo the "e"?

There is a boat junkyard near me. When it comes time to do my crash bars I'm going to pick up a boatload of used stainless boat railings for raw materials.

 

Bruce Bromme was another diehard who continued to flog a Offy into the 1970s. Something about a roll cage on a Offy powered sprinter just seems to go against the natural order of things though, IMO.

 

That is what I used to build the nerfs on my 32. Comes pre polished!

 

Your bumpers look great. sprint and midget bumpers are my favorite things to fabricate.

 

Tappered the bar stock down, heated it to glowing red, grabbed it with a pair of needle nose and twisted it around to meet itself.. Then, I made the upper "point" of the curlie-Q and weldded it on top. Then, got the die grinder and HAND FILES out and went to work.

We had one offy super sprint that raced here in western Pennsylvania years ago. It was driven by Buddy Martin from Cleveland,Ohio,who,if I remember correctly,also drove one of the first aluminum 215" Buick/Olds powered midgets. Sprint was a #2,and ran in both blue and red painted configurations. The midget was white with red flames,and a little fin on the tail tank. It was later stretched and caged to a super-sprint,with a larger engine, and raced at Greater Pittsburgh Speedway in 1965,with Jim Schaeffer of New Castle as the driver. I wonder what became of it. Later, a Ford powered white #22 with red flames appeared on the western Penna. circuit driven by Dick Schwartzlander. Its paint scheme was very similar,and was owned by someone named "McDowell". Any connection between the two cars? John S.

 

Didnt someone at Oswego use a transverse 'glass leaf on the front of a super a few years ago. I think this could work on a modern day dirt sprinter. It would be lighter than a bar front end. Hmmmm... John S.

 

Fred Graves, IIRC. Pretty hard to beat the adjustability of a 4-bar setup for the dirt, but might be a good deal for a asphalt sprinter.

 

Lets ask Racer5c who was probably the last guy to make a feature with and an OFFY and WHEN!!!

I think one of them was AJ and he won.

I have no idea who he raced against,though....

 

So far so good.

 

Give extra bonus points to the first one who knows who AJ raced against.

 

I think it was Al Unser or Parnelli. At the Indy Fairgrounds.

 

AJ is in the sulky on the rt in the photo. The other guy looks like it could be Al Unser in sunglasses....

 

Yep, it was the other "initialed one"..P.J. a promo match race at ISF around 1963.
