Tom, the Imp looks fabulous. Glad you were able to kick your troubles to the curb and get a new start. Life sometimes is very strange...

'58 Impalas are way out of my reach pricewise. I settled on the Biscayne instead. It's growing on me, I like the simplicity of it.

Good on you for getting the Impala though!

I Drag- I felt like you did but man they are still out there...Esp owning a 58 you'll have people coming up to you who have one or know of one...Just follow all the leads...Thats what i do..My dream was a Impala but i wanted a Del Ray like crazy to do a mild kustom but i'm going to do this one proper.

It's 1958 and my dad is stationed at Lincoln Air Force Base in Lincoln, Nebraska flying B-47's. His co-pilot is one of the coolest guys I've ever met and a car guy to boot. He is great to be around 'cause he will talk cars with a 14 year old. He calls one day and asks if I would like to ride with him out to check a '55 T-bird that's for sale. I'm there ,and in a half hour he pulls in my parents driveway...............in a brand new powder blue '58 Chevy Impala 2dr hard top, 348, tri-power, 4 spd. I about go ballistic as it's my favorite new car. He confesses that the '55 T-bird was a ruse and he really wanted to show me the '58. His wife goes in to visit my mom and I'm jumping in the passenger seat for a ride. My parents lived on the edge of Lincoln in a new subdivision so it's a matter of minutes and we're cruising the county roads outside of town. After 20 minutes of country driving he pulls over in the middle of a section and asks if I'd like to drive it. Does a bear shit in the woods? He knew I was an experienced driver as I was raised on a farm and was driving everything my grandfather owned by the time I was 10. I had never driven a 4 spd but 3-4 starts and I was on it. A half hour later (he was back behind the wheel) we pulled in my driveway and I floated into the house to tell mom about what at the time was the coolest thing I could imagine.
Been in love with '58's ever since and strange as it seems I've never owned one.

Congrats on joining the 58 Impala. I bought my first one 12-1979. Worst winter day of the year. Ended up using that car as the parts car for the Texas car I bought in 8-1981. Couple of years later I bought a ragtop and changed the trans to a t-350 and detailed the engine compartment. I sold it the year my daughter was born, 1985. Kept the hardtop because it was from TX and it was best and I couldn't see fixing up 2 cars at one time. Still have that car and getting ready to reassemble the 348, this time with a 700R4 and the 3 deuces I've had since 6-1980 from the Car Craft Street Machine Nats at Indy.

What engine is in yours? I went back and answered that myself..... Do your homework on these engines. PM me if you have questions I might be able to answer. Heads are a trick.

  19. The '58 Chevys are far and away, cooler and better cars than ANY of the Tri-Fives, save maybe for the Nomad!

I've always dug '58s. The Graffiti car is one of my all-time faves!

In reply to XIX32 find in the Arizona desert. we went through there in late 2007 and the Impala is still there. It looks to be a well ventilated car so humidity and stifling heat shouldnt be a problem at speed. I really like that new style tWeeds interior.

Very Cool, Dirty...They are great cars.

I was messed up as well after watching Toad in AG cruise for chicks...I just had to have one.

Mine is black, but I did add the Cad lights, and soon chrome wheels:

I know where a black one is sitting. Guy had it restored, got it back several years ago and parked it. Sitting right outside his house under a tree. It hasn't moved since it rolled off the truck.

    1) Were the 58 impalas built on the same chassis as the 5-6-7 series?

    a) What about the 58 bonneville?

Oh, that's a nice one to start with, congrats.

If Rolf's black one is the same one I think it is, I have probably worn out at least one pair of shoes walking around it in the past. One like that is on my short list of cars I'd love to have.
